Durability and reliability with peace of mind guaranteed

Packed with ingenious technology hard to find elsewhere in such a fantastic value package, this is a camera that can take the abuse you throw at it – and still come back for more.

The Olympus TOUGH TG-320 can survive being dropped onto a rock from a height of 1.5 metres or into a pool that's three metres deep. It can also be left outside in chilling temperatures as low as -10° Celsius and still be ready for action when you turn it on.

A sophisticated system of double seals protect the inner casing, while a double lock mechanism prevents anyone accidentally opening the card slots, output ports and battery compartment when underwater.

The precision 3.6x wide-angle optical zoom, offering an equivalent focal range to 28-102mm in 35mm film terms, is also protected: this time by a hard glass barrier.

Not just TOUGH, but very smart with it

Olympus was the first manufacturer to introduce a super rugged range of digital compacts and that expertise means that not only is the Olympus TOUGH TG-320 a natural born survivor, it is also one clever cookie.

While the 2.7-inch scratch resistant LCD screen is not touch sensitive because that would make it difficult to operate with wet hands or while wearing gloves, it is easy to view in bright sunlight. It also offers up Dual Image Stabilisation (Dual IS) to reduce the risk of blur when shooting without flash in lower light or trying to capture fast moving subjects.

Further aids to taking great pictures include a stunning new 3D underwater mode, intelligent Auto mode (i-Auto), plus AF tracking that locks on to target to ensure that moving subjects remain sharply in focus no matter where they may move about the frame.

Eight Magic Filters for turning the everyday into the extraordinary

Specifically designed to expand the creative potential of digital photography, this impressive function of the TG-320 utilises in-camera image processing technology to effortlessly transform the everyday into extraordinary scenes. Simple to operate, the filters allow users to create entirely new worlds with their images. From vibrant colours and pencil drawings to mysterious or rounded perspectives, artistic spirits can magically turn ideas into reality. What's more, six of these filters can be used when recording video as well as shooting stills.

Users can choose from Punk, Pop Art, Pin Hole, Drawing, Fish Eye, Soft Focus and new additions Sparkle and Watercolour.

  • Punk: Pose like Sid and Nancy and have your world turned dayglo pink, with this fun feature that transforms your photos into crudely photocopied fanzine style images, but in a good way.
  • Pop Art: In the tradition of Andy Warhol, this effect enhances colours, making them stronger and more vivid. It creates high-impact pictures that express the happy, light-hearted feeling of the pop art style.
  • Fish-Eye: With its distorted 180-degree perspective, this filter reproduces the dramatic effect of a fish-eye lens. It lends a new perspective to the whole scene with a “round” effect.
  • Drawing: This filter gives the impression that subjects have been sketched on the fly by an artist just at the moment that inspiration struck. Images are transformed into line drawings for improvised, creative results.
  • Pin Hole (photos only): For an ethereal feel, Pin Hole reduces the peripheral brightness of images like an image seen through a pinhole. Added to this is a unique colour tone that results in a style that has an air of secrecy or portrays the feeling of being lost in another dimension or space.
  • Soft Focus: Give your portraits that romantic otherworldly look beloved of wedding photographers.
  • Sparkle (photos only): A new Magic Filter that truly imparts a sprinkling of fairy dust, adding twinkling reflections to shiny objects.
  • Watercolour: With this option pictures are transformed into a watercolour painting framed by soft light.

5.0 out of 5 stars well worth the money 26 Aug 2012

I thought about buying some disposable underwater cameras before jetting off to Italy this summer when I got side tracked and found myself looking at this camera. I figured that 2 disposables and developing would cost half of the price of this camera with 54 shots and no certainty of getting any decent shots. Whereas we took a 16GB memory card and managed to take over 1500 underwater shots between the 4 of us! It took some practice to see the screen under water when wearing goggles or a mask and once we had all got the 'feel' for the camera and it's scope we found that we had taken some fantastic shots :-)
The additional features such as the punk setting, or sparkle setting added some great effects and the panoramic function was great - although the camera is slow to blend 3 images and you have to w a i t !! (please note however that taking panoramic photos underwater in the sea or a pool is very difficult for the camera to track unless there are static objects to link too...anyway have fun figuring that out for yourselves!
We were delighted that the video function also works underwater and had goggles talking like Dory and the whale in nemo - which WAS picked up by the mic!!
Not an expensive camera however and not to be relied upon for great outdoor shots, or those using the flash. As a bit of fun though in the water it was totally fantastico!

3.0 out of 5 stars Olympus tg320 13 Sep 2012
Colour Name:Red
Having bought this camera some months back I can't say it's easy to master,I required a camera I could use in all conditions, something that could take the odd wee drop bash or bang & the tg-320 does that alright. There are a few criticisms though, firstly taking movie footage with your camera will only allow about 10 minutes before completely draining your battery, also the shutter speed is very slow, some two to three seconds between shot, now at this point you most likly saying what's the point in buying it! with a bit of forward planning & reading online reviews I reckon I've found a few good tips for using this camera.

Firstly buy two lithium batteries & a charger, these batteries hold lots more power that the standard battery that comes with the camera, also they're very small & easily carried in a bag, secondly taking photo at the highest setting ie 14 mega pixel takes the camera longer to process it,by changing this to 8 mega pixel it reduces the shutter speed to half the time, also change the shooting sequel to high speed ,again it improve shooting time, don't forget it put the camera on battery saving mode.

Generally this is a good camera I've had to adapt to making the best use of it,but it has some cracking features & takes good photos, just render change your setting, carry extra batteries & it will be grand.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tough 9 Dec 2012
By Kim
Colour Name:Blue|Amazon Verified Purchase
I was looking for a new camera to take on holiday with me, and, being so clumsy, thought I'd better get this one.
Well, I tell you, if you're wondering, "is it really tough," don't worry because it is. The first time I dropped it was immediately - it actually fell out the box onto the floor. I thought, "that's paid for itself!" The second time was that evening when I went out in the car and took it with me, forgot it was on my lap, and as I got out it fell onto the kerb.
To test the waterproof thing, I put it in my water feature. Got a nice picture of a bubble and a stone. Make sure though that when you use it underwater, you slide that thing across on the side where the cover for the charger port is. It will click when you close it but there's also a little area to the side you have to slide it into. It says in the instructions but I'm sure not everyone reads them.
So after dropping it and getting it wet, the colour still seems to be good - there are no scratches or anything and I've had it about 6 months now.
Only reason it's not 5 stars is that I've had better picture quality on other cameras. But really, for what it is, it's a really good camera.

Right camera in the right price. This camera have a lot of advantages but the main one is the ''tough'' construction. Suitable camera for all the extreme sports lovers.
