A groundbreaking camera that comes from the same place as previous Olympus innovations such as the PEN camera and XZ-1 compact. Improving on the existing SZ-10 with a higher resolution and longer lens reach, the stunning SZ-30MR super zoom is not only drop dead gorgeous to look at, it also has the state of the art features that tech lovers crave.
The small and stylish 16 megapixel SZ-30MR is a must-have for people who like moving and shooting 24/7, with wireless connectivity via Eye-Fi card compatibility allowing images to be shared quickly and conveniently, whenever and wherever.
Travel light, and yet with a camera heavy on specification. For example, an extremely powerful and versatile wide 25-600mm equivalent (in 35mm film terms) zoom lens helps pinpoint the SZ-30MR series as one that stays true to Olympus’ remarkable pedigree.
Astonishingly slender for a camera equipped with such zooming power, now compact camera users can effortlessly squeeze more into the frame or get closer to the action. Take exceptional shots impossible with a more modest zoom, such as the expression of a gargoyle on a church roof or close ups of battling athletes.
The Olympus SZ-30MRR is also a camera of world firsts. It can record Full HD 1080p movie clips and 16 megapixel still photographs at the same time, thanks to ingenious technology Olympus calls Multi Recording (MR). So, if you’ve ever wished you’d shot a scene in one format then realised too late another would have been better, ‘MR’ is a must.
The power to record simultaneously in more than one mode is provided by Dual Engine TruePic III+ image processors. And what’s more there is a variety of combinations possible. For example users can record two different movies at once: in wide angle and in close up, at Full HD and lower resolution, or in standard shooting mode whilst also applying one of Olympus’ Magic Filters digital effects.
In addition, with the Photo with Movie Clip setting selected, it’s now possible to capture moving footage before and after taking a single photo. Such innovations provide users with the flexibility of sharing the same memories across a variety of media. Learn more about the multi-recording function by reading the SZ-30 information leaflet.
The Olympus range is now enhanced by optional 3D shooting mode, lending images a striking sense of depth. This mode captures two shots from two different angles to create shots that can be viewed on a 3D compatible display.
A Smart Panorama mode further allows for images with drama and beauty combined.
Connectivity is also enhanced by the SZ-30MR being compatible with Eye-Fi media cards, enabling automatic wireless downloading of pictures, straight to your desktop, and facilitating photo sharing.
Specifically designed to expand the creative potential of digital photography, this impressive function of the SZ-30MR utilises in-camera image processing technology to effortlessly transform the everyday into extraordinary scenes. Simple to operate, the filters allow users to create entirely new worlds with their images. From vibrant colours and pencil drawings to mysterious or rounded perspectives, artistic spirits can magically turn ideas into reality. What’s more, most of the filters can be used when recording video as well as shooting stills – a first in the SZ-30MR’s product category.
Users can choose from Punk, Pop Art, Pin Hole, Drawing, Fish Eye, Soft Focus and new additions Sparkle and Watercolour.
Punk: Pose like Sid and Nancy and have your world turned dayglo pink, with this fun feature that transforms your photos into crudely photocopied fanzine style images, but in a good way.
Pop Art: In the tradition of Andy Warhol, this effect enhances colours, making them stronger and more vivid. It creates high-impact pictures that express the happy, light-hearted feeling of the pop art style.
Fish-Eye: With its distorted 180-degree perspective, this filter reproduces the dramatic effect of a fish-eye lens. It lends a new perspective to the whole scene with a “round” effect.
Drawing: This filter gives the impression that subjects have been sketched on the fly by an artist just at the moment that inspiration struck. Images are transformed into line drawings for improvised, creative results.
Pin Hole: For an ethereal feel, Pin Hole reduces the peripheral brightness of images like an image seen through a pinhole. Added to this is a unique colour tone that results in a style that has an air of secrecy or portrays the feeling of being lost in another dimension or space.
Soft Focus: Give your portraits that romantic otherworldly look beloved of wedding photographers.
Sparkle: A Magic Filter that truly imparts a sprinkling of fairy dust, adding twinkling reflections to shiny objects.
Watercolour: With this option pictures are transformed into a watercolour painting framed by soft light.
A bugbear of bigger zoom cameras is the propensity for camera shake at longer focal lengths, when shooting handheld or in lower lighting conditions. Olympus therefore offers not one but two means of reducing the potentially damaging effects of image blur.
As a further help, light sensitivity settings between ISO80-3200 are also manually selectable. Alternatively, activate the built-in flash.
The Olympus SZ-30MR doesn’t just deliver the goods on paper. In practice, with a 16 megapixel top photo resolution and 1080p High Definition video recording, the manufacturer’s trademark pixel rich image quality is very much in evidence – even when pictures are viewed on a large screen television via HDMI output.
The Olympus SZ-30MR offers a large 3-inch, 460,000 dot resolution LCD screen for framing and reviewing your photos. This means that sharing shots on the spot with family and friends is not only a possibility but also a real pleasure.
Thanks to automatic aids like subject-following AF Tracking, Intelligent Auto Mode (i-Auto), Scene modes (for example, Landscape, Night), Beauty Mode, Advanced Face Detection, Pet Detection, and Shadow Adjustment Technology to ensure perfect focus and exposure for any given subject, plus high capacity SDHC and SDXC media card compatibility so you never run out of storage space. Slip a SZ-30MR in your camera bag and you’re all set for photo excellence.
Thanks to [ib] software images can be browsed, organized, and viewed by person, place, location or event.
Connect the camera to a computer or laptop and let the battery conveniently charge while you save and organise your images.
The Olympus SZ-30MR is available in black.
