Get closer to the action

The world's smallest and thinnest* 10x optical wide zoom digital camera. High-powered zoom cameras do not have to be bulky. Olympus believe even cameras with a high-powered zoom should have a slim, compact design. Compare the Olympus µ [mju:] 9000 with other 10x optical zoom cameras and you will see the difference in size. If you are looking for a high-powered zoom camera but with a thin, sleek design, the Olympus µ [mju:] 9000 is the only choice.

Available in stylish Midnight Black and Royal Blue, the metal bodied Olympus µ [mju:] 9000 features a huge 10x wide optical zoom within an impressively slim and compact body to bring the action that bit closer.

This state-of-the-art 12-megapixel camera also includes Dual Image Stabilisation for razor-sharp photography in otherwise tricky conditions, Shadow Adjustment Technology to deliver even exposures, plus Advanced Face Detection Technology for properly focused people pictures.

Description

With its striking 10x wide optical zoom (28-280mm equivalent in 35mm terms), the extra-slim 12 Megapixel µ [mju:] 9000 wields its high-performance lens to get right up close to distant subjects – or to pan out for magnificent wide-angle shots.

The 6.9cm/2.7-inch HyperCrystal III LCD displays stunningly clear images even in bright sunlight, and its wide viewing angles make framing convenient from almost any perspective.

Like each of the latest cameras in the "classic" µ series, this coolly styled model also includes Dual Image Stabilisation, a feature that reduces blur by using a mechanical image stabiliser and high ISO values. The sleek, metal-bodied µ [mju:] 9000 is available in stylish Midnight Black and Royal Blue variations, and shoots to both xD-Picture card and microSD.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent camera! 21 Nov 2009
Colour Name:Midnight Black
I have had the Olympus U9000 for several months and I have to say it the best one I have had so far. It is small, lightweight and easy to use with a logical and sensible menu. One point which REALLY stands out is the Hyper Crystal View LCD screen. With this the screen is able to be seen at all angles - the contrast stays the same no matter how you moove the camera. Most LCD screens go dark or light with only a slight movement! (This is why I sold my other camera.

With the Olypmus U9000, it is easy to take photos above a crowd or from unusual angles because of the large field of vision of the Hyper Crystal View screen. My question is: Why don't the other brands have this fantastic screen??

I like the size of the camera and its ability to zoom 10 times optical - really handy to get in close.

Only one quirk: When in MARCRO, why does the flash not become disabled? Who wants the flash firing when the lense is only 1 inch from the subject? (I disable the flash manually)

Otherwise a fantastic, versatile 10 times zoom pocket camera!Olympus Mju 9000 Compact Digital Camera - Royal Blue (12MP, 10x Optical Zoom) 2.7 inch LCD

5.0 out of 5 stars olympus mju 9000 2 Sep 2009
Colour Name:Midnight Black
I have had this camera for 3 months now and am very pleased with it.It is very well made from thick plastic with metal side plates unlike some which are thin and lightweight. I have used it mainly for landscapes and the results are superb really sharp with good colour. It is fairly easy to use and i soon got the hang of it. I would recommend this camera to anybody who wants a more advanced camera but doesnt want the size and expense of an slr.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Bit Ambivalent 23 May 2010
Colour Name:Midnight Black
I bought this model in February after selling my Lumix TZ4. I really wanted a Canon SX200 IS but it was out of my pricerange.....I still wanted a great zoom and good macro so selected this-my first Olympus digi.
Firstly I was disappointed because I always used the vivid setting on my Panasonic and therefore this one's colours looked very wishy-washy at first but I got used to it. Then I borrowed the TZ4 off my boss as I'd sold it to him to photograph some tree blossom and again I was disappointed after using that to go back to the Olympus's colour....
However, the battery last ages and ages and it's the first digi I've owned where I didn't need to buy a spare because it charges up so fast too. They've done a great job with this.
The super macro was terrific and I got some lovely photos using that. The super zoom is good too but NOT if you use the flash too-that makes it all full of noise.
The other scene modes I didn't find made a great deal of difference at all as it usually does on other models.
I got some great indoor shots with it.....and it's not a very bright flash so great for photographing animals.
LOVED the review button as you got to review all the shots you've taken using that which is a very handy thing to have.
All in all, not a great camera but not a dog either. As I said, I've sold it now and I'm going to get my Canon SX200 IS which I wanted in the first place.....I've had Canons before and miss the colour accent choice you only get with the Canons.
Oooh...forget to mention-this camera only does the smaller size video which I was disappointed with.
