it is pretty good!!, 21 Aug 2005
This review is from: Olympus m:robe MR100 5GB Digital Audio Player (Electronics)
I've had the olympus m:robe since August 4th (about 17 days) and i haven't had any real problems. Its thin and light, which means it easily fits into my pocket and i can hardly tell it's there!!! The player is really easy to use and takes hardly any time to transfer the 700+ songs from my computer to the player using m:trip, although it's a bit rubbish when you try to get loads of songs from a cd! The only other problem I have with my m:robe is that my battery doesn't last 12 hours. It could just be mine with a malfunction or something, or it could be a trait with all of them. When it comes down to it though, it is a really good mp3 player, so my advice...buy it!!!

The m:robe is a fantastic device with one major flaw. It looks amazing, easily out classing the iPod mini and leaving the rather plasticky Zen Micro looking like a childs toy. The touch controls are overall successful but can at times be little slow in responding. Its not as overly sensitive and jittery as the Zen micros touch panel but cant match the mini iPods spped of response and accuracy. On the important issue of sound quality the m:robe is surprisingly good coming from a camera manufacturer! Its detailed and open with a more exciting sound then the iPod mini thanks to its beefier bass. The bass can get a bit flabby and start to drow out the midrange in some tracks though. Its an easy listen where as i found the Zen had a bit too much treble which grate over time. The main flaw though is the volume level. At full volume i could have a normal conversation with my girlfriend and she didn't have to talk loudly. It would be a nightmare on the commute to work as even cars passing by on the street drown out the m:robe This is a real shame as otherwise its a fantastic device! I ended up returning mine due to the low volume and got an iPod instead although i still pine for my beloved m:robe...

Olympus M:Robe MR-100, 12 Mar 2006
This review is from: Olympus m:robe MR100 5GB Digital Audio Player (Electronics)
I've had mine a little over a week now. Have updated the firmware and was able to take the M-trip to version 1.05. V1.06 won't work for me. After loading it, Program hangs and won't start. Had to Un-install M-trip and start over. I use easy cd ripper to rip my Mp3's and just point M-trip to the folder for importing. Thing is. you have to keep your music folder intack or the next time you synk you M:Robe, you'll get errors. I havent' had any problems with mine yet. I have moved about 3.3GB to M:Robe and it's working fine. Didn't care for the stock earbuds so picked up a pair of Sure E2G's. They sound great, just not enough bass punch. My bigest worry is: Will Olympus sell us replacement batteries for the M:Robe 100's and 500's. and how quick will they release the M-trip V1.07. I'd like to get all the bennifets that I can from M-trip since we don't have any other options. If support hangs in there for awhile, we should be able to get a decent life out of these. Bottom Line: I Really Like My M:Robe 100 and everybody is always asking about it. If they wern't discontinued, they could sell a ton of em. I've seen on the Asian sites that Olympus is going to sell an M:Robe Flash memory version at 1GB and maybe up to 5GB The new players look pretty sleek. I would buy one. Keep your eyes open for them.
