Cool new features of the LS-11
In addition to improved convenience and new editing facility, the new Olympus LS-11 has improved frequency response, clock accuracy and includes a new case for device and accessories.
Also supplied in the package are two AA batteries (LR6 or ZR6), hand strap, and warranty card. Alkaline batteries offer approximately 23 hours recording time – extendable if using two Ni-MH rechargeable batteries instead.

Steinberg Cubase 4 LE music production software included

More recording formats, wider creative choice
The LS-11 allows users to record in ever-popular, widely compatible MP3 format for distributing and sharing music online. Different MP3 modes offer different recording times, with the option of 14 hours, 10 minutes at 320kbps, 17 hours, 45 mins at 256kbps, or 25 hours, 35 minutes at 128 kbps.
PCM (WAV) format alternatively provides crisp, high quality uncompressed recording that delivers better than CD sound, with different modes offering different recording times – from 55 minutes at best quality to maximum three hours and 10 minutes.
If you need to record for even longer, WMA format is the option to go for, with up to 69 hours and 35 minutes offered at 64kbps setting.

I would add however that a windjammer shield is a necessary addition for minimising wind-noise if recording outdoors (orchestrals in particular) due to musical expressions and extended volume variations invariably common in such music.
Amazon fortunately sell suitable wind-shields, but if there's one desirable accessory missing from the line-up it is the silicone jacket - evidently available from elsewhere in the USA, or as part of an (expensive) bundled recorder/accessory kit from only one UK seller I could mention.
If you are holding this device in your hand whilst recording anything where handling noise is important (not an unreasonable expectation), the higher friction afforded by a soft silicone jacket is essential to minimise small handling noises that will be picked up by the robustly-mounted on-board mics. The alternatives are a dedicated handle and mount assembly or external mics - both expensive, otherwise unnecessary, and far less convenient for impromptu recording sessions.
It would be entirely fair to argue that recording professional-quality live performances would typically involve a fixed tripod/shock-mount assembly, with start-stop recording controlled by the sweet little remote control after the sound-checks are complete, but a pity that the silicone jacket doesn't appear to be generally available to UK buyers for this superb piece of gear.
The only other minor negative is the enclosed carry-case includes a small pocket for the tiny remote control and accompanying receiver, but to bundle other useful cables in the same bag could scratch the unit case or display. You therefore need a bigger bag to keep the supplied kit together.
Regardless, it get's my highest possible recommendation in this price bracket (and possibly most else sub-£800).
