The Olympus FE-4040: Simply great pictures
For photographers wanting high image quality without spending a fortune, the new 14 megapixel FE-4040 is the ideal solution. One of four new easy-to-use and beautifully designed FE series cameras available in a riot of different colours and so slim, you’ll barely notice the camera is there until you need to use it.
Despite the slender dimensions the camera squeezes in a 4x wide optical zoom (26-105mm*), an SD card slot, comes with a USB charging and includes a range of practical features. These include an AF tracking function that ensures moving subjects remain in focus at all times. Also on board are Dual Image Stabilisation combining Advanced Face Detection Technology, In-Camera Help Guide, movie recording with sound, plus clever i-Auto (intelligent Auto) mode, which automatically identifies five commonly encountered types of scenes and adjusts settings accordingly for optimum image results.

Magic Filters: turn the everyday into the extraordinary
Specifically designed to expand the creative potential of digital photography, this impressive function of the FE-4040 utilises in-camera image processing technology to effortlessly transform the everyday into extraordinary scenes. Simple to operate, the filters allow users to create entirely new worlds with their images. What's more, they can be previewed before they are shot courtesy of the “Compare Shot” function. From vibrant colours and pencil drawings to mysterious or rounded perspectives, artistic spirits can magically turn ideas into reality.
Pop Art: In the tradition of Andy Warhol, this effect enhances colours, making them stronger and more vivid. It creates high-impact pictures that express the happy, light-hearted feeling of the pop art style.
Fish-Eye: With its distorted 180-degree perspective, this filter reproduces the dramatic effect of a fish-eye lens. It lends a new perspective to the whole scene with a “round” effect.
Sketch: This filter gives the impression that subjects have been sketched on the fly by an artist just at the moment that inspiration struck. Images are transformed into line drawings for improvised, creative results.
Pin Hole: For an ethereal feel, Pin Hole reduces the peripheral brightness of images like an image seen through a pinhole. Added to this is a unique colour tone that results in a style that has an air of secrecy or portrays the feeling of being lost in another dimension or space.
Advanced Face Detection Technology searches for faces in a composition and recognises them as the main subject. It then automatically puts them in focus and optimally adjusts exposure to create an image that’s sharp in the right places and ideally exposed. Advanced Face Detection Technology can detect up to 16 faces.

Another impressive new function is AF tracking, this system tracks the moving subject automatically and keeps it continually in focus for pictures that are optimally focused and exposed. It also memorises subject data even when the subject goes out of frame and resumes tracking when it reappears.

Meanwhile, the innovative i-Auto (intelligent-Auto) mode uses advanced automatic detection technology to allow the camera to recognise the five most commonly used scenes automatically. They enable the capture of perfect photos without any need for manual settings.
Liven up your memories with the addition of Movie Recording with sound (up to VGA resolution at 30fps). Capture and share video footage with friends and family, then download to your home PC for posterity.
Providing two-fold protection, Dual Image Stabilisation helps to avoid image blur caused by camera shake or fast-moving subjects. It combines high ISO values with a CCD-based mechanical image stabiliser, where a built-in gyro sensor detects camera movement and adjusts the CCD accordingly.
Olympus now offers an integrated photo browsing and organising software. Using the software on a PC, images can be organised by person, by place or by event. The information tagged in each photo allows selected pictures to be viewed on a PC.
USB Battery Charging: Connect the camera to a computer and let the battery charge while you save and organise your images. The supplied super-compact AC adaptor also makes it easy to charge the battery while you're travelling.
Available in a choice of Indium Grey, Aquamarine Blue, Flamingo Pink and Pure White, the Double-Layered Crystal Shell finish adds to the FE-4040’s chic look and getting great shots, whilst viewing or framing them on its 6.9cm/2.7” LCD, is a cinch.

I received the camera and it worked initially then it broke. I sent it back to the manufacturers. It was returned in a worse state. I resent it for repairs and it is so far working o.k. As it was an Olympus make so I wasn't expecting any problems.
