Product Description

Dust Free Photography with the Supersonic Wave Filter. The Olympus E-System features an outstanding invention to protect the camera's delicate, precision sensor from dust.

Dust is a much greater problem for digital cameras than for 35mm film cameras. With SLRs in particular there is a real risk that dust will enter the camera while the lens is being changed. With film cameras dust particles move with the film as it is wound on so that only one picture is normally affected. In addition dust may also be caused from within the camera.

However, if a dust particle falls on a digital camera's image sensor, it normally remains there, to be joined by more dust particles. Not only that but the individual pixels are so miniscule that even the tiniest dust particle may cover several sensors, and over time this will lead to a significant deterioration in image quality.

Security of Dust Free Images:When the anti-dust function is activated, a supersonic wave engine surrounding the filter generates a series of ultrasonic vibrations. This shakes off any dust and other foreign particles of a certain size from the filter in front of the sensor. Following this procedure, the sensor is dust free again.

Automatic Dust Reduction:The anti-dust function is automatically activated every time the camera is switched on or whenever pixel mapping is carried out.

Less Service and Editing Efforts are Required:This self cleaning function of the sensor means that the camera will need much less internal cleaning. As this can only be carried out at a service centre this will save you time and money!

Computer Active - February 2007 Buy it! Award The world's smallest camera to have a swappable lens is a delight!" Camera Labs - December 2006 Recommended Award "The quality and controls are very good, the compact body is extremely portable without compromising handling, and the SSWF remains the only anti-dust system we've tested which seems genuinely effective. 5.0 out of 5 stars Better than the competition 5 Aug 2011
This camera is a real hidden gem, not only that it is more compact than the comparable Canon or Nikon, but also the quality of the photos is astonishingly good for such a low priced DSLR.

Definitely the right camera for first buyers of a DSLR camera, solid quality for little money and very user friendly, very clear manual and easy to use. Also much lighter than other DSLRs but still not without the feel of it being very high quality.
