The Olympus 8x21 RC II Binoculars: Foldable Daily Use Binoculars, Combining a Beautiful Pocket Design with Easy Handling

For those who like a pair of binoculars to appear as fashionable as they are practical, there is the Olympus RC II series. This pocket-sized 8x21 RC II model features compact dimensions and offers easy handling for everyday general use, whilst excelling when used for bird watching, or camping or hiking, plus travelling and touring.

These ultra portable roof prism type binos are fashioned using high quality optics, feature multi-coated lenses for maximum brightness and contrast, plus boast the added worry-free feature of UV (ultraviolet) protection. Added to the enticing mix are precisely ground high index prisms made of brightness-enhancing barium crown glass (Bak-4) to ensure clarity and brightness to the very edge of the field of view.

Peace of mind and years of pleasure are further guaranteed thanks to a 25-year European warranty as standard.

Looking Great, Seeing Great

This particular model offers 8x magnification and a 21mm objective lens diameter. As it sounds, 8x magnification produces an image that appears as if the user were eight times closer to their subject, while the objective lens diameter refers to how much light can be gathered to form that image. For daytime use a lens diameter of 21 to 25mm is ideal.

Also worth taking note of is the exit pupil. Here that is 2.6mm, which for 8x21 binoculars is arrived at via 21 divided by 8 = 2.6 exit pupil in mm, so in line with the 2-3mm which is generally thought of as being suitable for daylight use. Another thing to take into account is the field of view, which here is 110 metres, and is defined as the width of the viewable field at a distance of 1000m from the point of observation. Closest focusing distance is 3 metres.

Versatile and Bright, and Adaptable to Suit your Individual Viewing Needs

Offering an 8x magnification to bring faraway points of interest that much closer plus a 21mm objective lens diameter, the Olympus 8x21 RC II Binoculars deliver optimum quality from the optics provided.

Fast and easy focusing is provided courtesy of a large, centrally placed knob. The 8x21 RC II model further sports a long 11.5mm eye relief for extra comfort, plus diopter adjustment to allow them to be attuned to an individual’s eyesight for comfortable viewing without glasses.

Engineered for Excellence, Built for Convenience

Boasting a tactile and ergonomic design and weighing 185g, the Olympus 8x21 RC II measurements are a manageable 106x88x38mm, while the package includes a neck strap, case and protective lens covers.

In summary, with a lens configuration of 5 elements in 3 groups, and 11.5 mm eye relief, the field of view at 1000m is 110m. The actual field of view is 6.3° while the apparent angle of view is 49.6°.

Available in a choice of magenta, pearl white and champagne gold, these are also binoculars that will repay your original investment with years of good service. A case in point: a 25-year warranty is included with any purchase.

I wanted to be able to watch ballet in close-up, and chose these binoculars after being dissatisfied with the relatively small field of vision and difficulty of use of some x3 opera glasses I had bought previously. In contrast, these Olympus binoculars gave much better magnification over an equivalent field of view and are much easier to look through, as well as being remarkably compact when folded. Really great to have.

These are lovely stylish budget lightweight binos which I use for wildlife watching. They are much lighter than the 10x50 pair I normally use which are literally a pain in the neck after carrying them around more an hour or so. Although obviously they dont have the light gathering power of the 10x50 they are brighter than I expected considering they have a mere 21mm objective aperture. They are easy to set up and the focusing is easy even with gloves. As they are very light, they tend to shake a bit, but it's acceptable. I can't comment on the sharpness of the image compared to top flight binos (costing ten times more) as I've never owned any, but the image looked sharp to my 53 year old eyes. They are very good for the price and I recommend them.

Looking at buying a pair of these and got confused with two sets of prices and slightly different designs.
You are looking at two different products the RC11 and the RC11 WP - the WP stands for Waterproof - nitrogen filled bodies and sealed optics.
So be careful which you buy and interesting whether they review the same - presumably the optics are common.
The WP is - as you would expect - the more expensive product.

I would recommend this product to any female who loves the outdoors and wants to get close to nature. Apart from the fantastic colour these binoculars have a superb range and are crisp and clear. Ideal for birdwatching, hill walking or general sight seeing. I take then everywhere now.

Bought these to replace my old pair, these days mainly used to watch Blackburn Rovers. They are very impressive at such a reasonable price, easy to focus and very clear, (I'm a retired seafarer so I've a bit of 'previous'). Sadly I haven't spotted any more goals at Ewood Park though...

I bought these binoculars for my wife's birthday to watch the birds from our conservatory plus use when we go walking.
My wife loves the compact size that easily fits into her coat pocket when walking plus the clarity of the binoculars is excellent and finally she loves the unusual colour which makes them a little special and ideal for that special present.
