creativity in the palm of your hand

The olloclip Telephoto + Circular Polarizing Lens is a quick-connect lens solution for the iPhone and iPod touch that fits in the palm of your hand. This lens was designed for anyone who takes photos with an iPhone or iPod touch. Need to get closer to the action? The Telephoto Lens does just that with 2x optical magnification. Need to reduce or remove glare or really make the colors stand out? Simply switch sides and the CPL has what you need. Additionally the CPL can be used with the Telephoto Lens as well as the Fisheye and Wide-Angle Lenses of the original olloclip 3-IN-1 Lens System.

Telephoto Lens

The olloclip Telephoto Lens delivers 2x optical magnification, so you can get twice as close to what you are photographing with your iPhone/iPod touch. Subjects look larger and you can zero right in. It offers a more creative depth of field, and you can use selective focus to make your subjects stand out distinctly from their backgrounds. You may set the focus within the Apple camera app. The olloclip App (free in the App Store) is also an excellent tool to help you set the focus. The lens also is great for video. While a tripod is not required, there are times you may find one helpful. (See the olloclip Quick-Flip Case for tripod attachment options).

Circular Polarizing Lens

The CPL is designed to reduce glare from reflected surfaces and show colors more true to life. When rotated, the lens blocks certain wavelengths of light from entering the camera lens and hitting the camera's sensor. When undesired light (typically from light bulbs or sun) is not blocked, the result can be photos with glare and washed-out colors.

The CPL can be used to enhance many different types of photos. For example, you can reduce reflections from glass and haze - and achieve great-looking photographs of water. Often there is a glare on the water's surface, which blocks out what is underneath. The CPL can help reduce or remove this glare so that what is below the surface becomes clearly visible.

Really useful product and you can take it anywhere becuase it's so small and compact. The images are excellent quality and the zoom comes handy when you want a close up.

Good product which is well engineered. A good addition to the Olloclip wide angle/fisheye lens. Recommended.

Good piece of kit that is easy to use and does the job well. The only reason it got a 4 and not a 5 was because the interior lens is in a recess. Dust gathers here and it is difficult to clean out.

Great addition to the camera, but I'll probably be returning. 4 Oct. 2013
By Just Chris - Published on Amazon.com

UPDATE: I did return it. Image quality was ok and everything, but I'd rather carry around a point and shoot camera with a 5X zoom if I am carrying anything extra around with me. This lens is not small, and if it had some variable zoom, or was a smaller unit, I'd have kept it.

Overall I like the Telephoto lens from Olloclip, at least I want to. The image quality with the lens was great, and the ability to zoom even farther out with my zoom-limited smartphone is wonderful.
The lens feels good in the hand and is very well made. This is not a chintzy piece of hardware at all.

The problem is the lens is large and once this is on the phone (unlike the wide angle Olloclip (smaller) that you could get in your pocket) the telephoto is pretty big. So you definitely cannot just tuck your phone delicately away and leave this thing on it or you will probably find it on the ground. Or you'll find the cover floating in your pocket.
So you are left with removing the entire assembly...which means putting the polarizer into it's own little bag, snapping the front cap on big lens, then putting the whole assembly into a bag. You could just leave it loose in your pocket maybe, but the first time I tried this I got lint on the back of the lens - that is really annoying to get off. So the bag...use it.

But then, since they went with this soft-bag protective gear, it really forces you to commit to carrying the phone with the lens on it or miss precious seconds of an opportunity because you have to fiddle with a bag to get the lens out. Oh don't forget you need to remove your phone case again too unless you bought the special Olloclip one, grr.

So for my usage this doesn't work. I have myself to blame partly because the images do show the scale of the object on the phone - it just didn't dawn on me how large this really is. I almost feel at this point like I'd rather drop another 150$ and just get a Sony DSC-QX10/B Smartphone Attachable 4.45-44.5mm Lens-Style Camera. Sure it's bigger and altogether different, but it would be about the same nuisance-factor carrying it around and it's got a better zoom.

If your usage is sitting at a dance recital or a football game and you're tired of getting pictures that don't even show the activity - this will probably help with that.
if you are sitting with friends and want to bring them in closer in your pictures (headshots/etc.) this will work well.
If you are moving and out and about with your kids or friends and there are lots of quick moments or you're part of an activity, this isn't going to be the "bust it out and get the shot then put it away" lens for you. Then again maybe you don't need a telephoto for that anyways, so who knows.

It's not for me, but it's still well made and a good product.

I knocked off 2 stars because:
(1) they should include some sort of hardened cover for the polarizer too so if you DID want to leave it in a jacket pocket on the phone you could.
(2) should include a foam hardsided case to let me tote it around more without this weird baggie.

Wishlist...Olloclip seems to do well with their products, so why can't they stop making their lame case and work with some other vendors to make theirs "Olloclip Friendly" with a removable part or something in that region, or a thicker/clamping model that would still work on top of a case.

High quality glass, polarizer very effective 8 Sept. 2013
By En P. Junction - Published on Amazon.com
Once you accept having to remove your case (or not use a case) every time you want to use the olloclip you'll find this telephoto lens is an excellent accessory. Right off the top, the telephoto's focal length is perfect for portraits. It allows you to frame the subject's head without having to get super close. For outdoor shots in full sunlight I've found the polarizer to be pretty much required. Even if there isn't a lot of glare the polarizer will turn a normally whitish sky azure blue. At $100 this kit is half the price of the phone (with a contract) but if you rely on your iPhone5 as you're primary camera it really adds $100 of value.

I bought both Olloclip lenses after watch Jack Davis' seminar on iPhoneography published by CreativeLive.com. They really help me take better pictures. Like someone once said, "The best camera is the one you have with you."

Nice Polarizer and Telephoto 10 July 2014
By Phil - Published on Amazon.com
This is well made with a precise snug fit for your iPhone 5, 5S or iPod 5. You must remove your case for a proper fit. The telephoto is on one side and the polarizer is on the other. You can use the telephoto alone or flip it around and use the polarizer alone. You can also remove the polarizer and attach it to the telephoto to use both at once. This seems to be a high quality circular polarizer and it rotates to adjust the degree of filtering for reflections and glare. Also included are adaptors to use the polarizer on the 3 in 1 wide angle or the 4 in one wide angle and fisheye. There is also an adaptor for the iPod 5 and two soft case bags, one for the polarizer and one for the telephoto.

Okay it's something extra to carry, but it has a case and will fit easily in a pocket for those special occasions when you think you might want it.

Yes you can get a longer telephoto lens but remember anything more than 2x should probably be on a tripod or steadied some other way due to camera shake. You can also zoom internally with the iPhone 5S iSight camera up to 3X giving you 2X times 3X = 6x telephoto. Sure you can buy a pocket camera without GPS, without camera Apps, without cloud, email and text capability but why when you already have a 8MP camera in your pocket all of the time.

Too much of a distortion 31 May 2014
By Alexander Pashintsev - Published on Amazon.com

Was surprised by the amount of peripheral distortion on the telephoto lens, and could not see any measurable different of the polarizing lens. But the build quality is nice.
