Oiver + S Little Things to Sew is a collection of 20 accessories and other small sewing projects to make for children from Oliver + S, a successful new sewing pattern company headed by popular designer Liesl Gibson. The company Oliver + S is known for blending its fresh, modern style with a classic sensibility, as well as for its detailed, easy to follow pattern instructions. Projects in Oliver + S: Little Things to Sew include whimsical yet practical items for children, such as a hat, scarf, vest, tutu, art smock, backpack, messenger bag and quilt. Two pullout pattern sheets provide sewers with all of the instruction they need to be successful. In addition, the Oliver + S LIttle Things To Sew package includes two cardstock paper dolls and illustrations of projects from the book for the paper dolls to wear. (The illustrations are printed on the book's dust jacket and can be cut out.) Oliver + S is known for including paper dolls images with all of their individual patterns, so including the paper dolls in the book is a natural celebration of their brand and also sets this book apart from all others (see oliverands.com).
About the Author
Leisl Gibson is the founder of Oliver + S, a company that publishes sewing patterns for classic children's clothing with contemporary flair. Before launching Oliver + S, Gibson studied at FIT and worked as a designer for Geoffrey Beene, Tommy Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren. I bought this book as I love the Oliver and S patterns and since I am expecting my first baby I hope to sew a lot of clothes and toys for her. I have just started to make the Play Town which I am really excited about. The patterns in the book are diverse - some clothes, some toys, some accessories and there designs for both boys and girls. I haven't made anything from it yet but if it is as good as their pattern line I am sure the patterns will be brill. The only problem is when I went to take the pattern from the back of the book it ripped! This is quite disappointing as the book seems really high quality.So overall a nice looking book just a shame that the glue at the back is too sticky!

It completed my expectations totally. Very detailled and easy to use! Very creative and inventive. Loved it! Has great projects that I will certainly will try out!

Classic Oliver+S Design

I just adore this book. On my first look-through I was a little apprehensive that the ideas would be too simple but was so pleasantly surprised to find projects that have the classic Oliver+S idea of using patterns as a way to teach new sewing techniques. The instructions for individual projects are clear and the photographs are wonderful. There is also a section on sewing techniques as well as pattern layouts. All of the patterns are included inside the cover of this very sturdy hardcover book. This would be a great book for a beginner to advanced sewer because the projects vary in difficulty.

bento box carrier

Lovely - Classic Oliver + S Style!

This book is beautiful and inspiring from cover to cover. Oliver + S is known for their step by step instructions and detailed depictions of the steps necessary to complete each project. I recieved my book last week and so far have made the mittens and bucket hat. Both turned out beautifully! I'm new to sewing and I find learning so much easier when working from O+S patterns. You'll love this book!

Amazing stuff you'd actually make

This book is full of projects that you'd actually want to make. I bought it because I was so excited about the Red Riding Hood pattern in particular. It's also great for both genders; if you've got a boy (or girl!) the explorer vest is great too. What I like is that the size range is so large (6 months to size 10) so we'll be able to use this for a very long time. My only complaint was that they attached the patterns with sticky dots and it ripped my pattern pages a little bit. So be careful when getting the patterns off.
