I would give this album 3 stars because, while the tracks are mostly great, assuming this is the same version as released in the box set of the same name that came out a while ago, I think the sound is a bit muddy compared with what I would expect from a remastered album.
However, if as the other reviewer suggests, it is a remix of the original LP then that would be a little ironic, because that in turn was mostly a remix of songs the band were not happy with from their first two albums. If this version has band member approval does that mean the mixes are even more definitive than before?
I never bought the original LP but, comparing this cd version with the songs on the original albums, (also from cd), while I can hear differences, to my ears, neither is markedly worse than the other, so for me which is "better" comes down to personal preference.
Given this only covers the first two albums plus some songs only released on singles, I would suggest there are better, more comprehensive, retrospectives of Family for a first time buyer. I would also recommend getting the first two albums, if you can, in the double set which also includes both sides of their first single. However, certainly the completist should have this record as well - if for no other reason than it contains versions of the songs mixed the way the band members wanted.
