5.0 out of 5 stars A must for all professional door supervisers 6 Oct 2000
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
Jamie's work is both imformative and educational, as a doorman myself I found it very helpful. It explains in detail how to deal with dangerous situations, handle people under the influence of different drugs and where you stand within the law. Also Jamie constantly gets across the point that there is no place for thugs on the door, and that all doormen should be vetted and registered. I highly recomend "Old school-New school" to anyone interested in door work, as all his other books.

5.0 out of 5 stars As a former Bouncer myself! 17 Nov 1998
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
As a former 'Bouncer' myself, and probably also of the 'OLD' school, I found this book an eye-opener. Jamie never writes a book without having either deeply researched the subject, or without having some practical experience in the field. The cauliflower eared thug image is shattered by Jamie's very graphic and deep knowledge of this very misunderstood member of our social-life. The law and it's influence on Doormen and Bouncers is well covered, as well as the topic of registration. Anyone wishing to enter this field shouldn't do so without owning a copy of this book. It's the ONLY one of it's kind on the market, and covers all you need or want to know about a very highly specialised occupation. Simply don't enter this high-risk occupation without the solid advice given in this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Good , The Bad , and The Ugly ! 7 Nov 1998
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This book really does give the lowdown on the realities of doorwork . If you work the doors you'll either love it or hate it for precisely that reason . Jamie has very strong views on bouncing as a profession , and pulls no punches in his critique of the job and all it entails . As with all Jamie's books , this is packed with so much useful information it's hard to believe . With many years experience on the doors himself , Jamie really is in the position to give away an insiders knowledge of the game . Everything from fighting , fear control , recognising different drugs and their effects , dealing with the Police, body language, even fire safety is covered thoroughly . Jamie has really covered all bases with this one ! Even if you aren't, or have no intention of being a doorman , this book is packed with advice , tactics , and techniques for self-protection . An incredible book .
