4.0 out of 5 stars The British Bernie Gunter 20 Dec 2012
By Bill
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Good London based police mystery with a plot that keeps you guessing without so many threads you lose it. Troy is a great addition to the cop genre - our own British Bernie Gunter! I liked the wartime setting which is authentic and thought the characters were interesting in their own right with a story to tell. I suppose the only criticism is the extent that the coincidence of Troy's family connections help the plot. On the other hand if you can't ignore this you should read true crime instead. I have read a later novel in the series and think they maintain the high standard or get even stronger. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars John Lawton does it again 2 Nov 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I am not sure that I have read the John Lawton novels in the correct order but since coming across him in a kindle special offer, I have eagerly read each book. These are fast paced, superbly well written thrillers, set in the period immediately before, during and after WW2 .

His particular talent lies in creating such believable and exciting fiction by interweaving real figures of the day with his own extraordinary cast of characters. Using the known political events and intrigues of the day as background for the drama which unfolds in each novel, he produces plots which hold the attention from first to last page.

I recommend these novels to anyone who wants not just a good read but a book which will intellectually challenge and stimulate as well.
