Old Dogs, New Math "Can you help me with my math homework?" If, like most parents, this question fills you with a sense of dread (or even panic), then this is the book for you.So much for the "good old days" when elementary students simply memorized their times tables and struggled through long division. Recommended in Math Education periodicals.
I ordered one for myself as a Student - Teacher working with ELLs and another for a puzzeled Mother of a 5th grader. The explanations and techniques have worked for both of us. A total OOH factor.

4.0 out of 5 stars Helpful for us old dogs! 2 Dec 2012

I bought this book when I was stumped about how to help my 1st grader and her inexperienced teacher couldn't tell me what to do! This book lays out all the crazy new ways they teach kids to do math in incrementally harder chapters. The author breaks it down in small enough bites that if I am already familiar with a concept I can skip it and not miss anything else. By looking ahead I believe this will take me through the next several grades or more.
