Most Helpful Customer Reviews

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful By J. Robertson on 7 Jan. 2010
Format: Audio CD
The marches recorded on this CD were written in the period between the later years of the Habsburg Empire and the end of the communist regime at the time of the Velvet Revolution.

They are played very crisply by the Czech Philharmonic under Vaclav Neumann, and not surprisingly the music shows up the brass section to best advantage. The recording is very clear and well-balanced.

It appears that the recordings were made in spare minutes at the end of recording sessions of other weightier works; we are lucky to have such a recording of another side of Czech musical life from the well-known works of Dvorak, Smetana and Janacek.
