Germany released, PAL/Region 0 DVD: LANGUAGES: German ( Dolby Digital 2.0 ), German ( Dolby Digital 5.1 ), English ( Subtitles ), German ( Subtitles ), Italian ( Subtitles ), Japanese ( Subtitles ), ANAMORPHIC WIDESCREEN (1.78:1), SPECIAL FEATURES: Interactive Menu, Trailer(s), SYNOPSIS: Oktoberfest tells of people who meet on the last day of the Oktoberfest, lose one another, then find each other again. These little and big stories track individual destinies drawn to one another, converging at the festival. Like the gondolas of the ferris wheel, the individual stories spin around an axis, are held together and put in motion by it. Sometimes they reach the same height, sometimes just a glance of one another, but they are always in motion. The stories all occur simultaneously, and are dramatically linked and interwoven. The shared surface of these stories is the Oktoberfest. There the various episodes find their beginnings, and sometimes their end. ...Oktoberfest

I thought this was a movie because on the internet it said this film consisted of multiple strands of narrative, even a love story, expertly woven together. It is actually a documentary about the history, the festival's 200th anniversary celebrations, processions and festivities, featuring interviews with participants from all walks of life who explain their role, the traditions, and visitors from other countries. The cinematographer is the director/cinematographer of River and Tides, the poetic and truly beautiful filmed documentary about Andy Goldsworthy, the artist. Here he gives you vivid colour saturated shots of all that the eye can see of the fest, creating a sense of immediacy as if the viewer is actually there. I took away one star because the voice over narration is so earnest, and lacking in imagination, it could be a spoof. So you have great cinematographer, not so great direction, but the visuals are great, the interviews quire revealing, and so the comments almost don't matter.
