CD Description
The very first musical play to be written by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein, Oklahoma! opened in New York in 1943 and would go on to run for an unprecedented 2,212 performances before closing in 1948. Its popularity endured beyond then however, prompting a 1955 film version that starred Gordon MacRae, Shirley Jones and Gloria Grahame. Oklahoma! was the third successful Rodgers and Hammerstein film vehicle within some twelve months, making them the hottest composers around. The success also proved beneficial to the likes of Gordon MacRae and Shirley Jones, with Shirley being a major star across some three decades.

Did not realise when I purchased this cd that it is in mono and not stereo,so after watching the wonderful film and enjoying the songs, I felt cheated out of hearing the counterpoint in the music which is so lovely. I dont recall seeing anything that would have warned me that it was in MONO only

This is a truly splendid record. In addition to the well known show stoppers there are some great songs here.
It's worth getting this particular recording for Gloria Grahame's rendition of "I Cain't Say No". Brooklyn meets the Prairies!

Can't beat music like this. I defy anyone to not sing along. It's perfect for the drive to work, especially if you need a boost! Yes it's mono but who cares at this price?
