Product Description

If you've got a loyalty card and love a 3 for 2 offer, shop on eBay or take soaps from hotels this is the book for you! Pikeys have been with us for thousands of years but in recent times the pikey instinct has become ubiquitous. With a wealth of money-saving offers and the glorious advent of cut-price airlines, its is now practically impossible to pay full price for anything - should you be foolish enough to want to. Pikeyness is a way of life with a rich history and culture. From Jesus to LoveJoy, the Queen to the Wombles, Oi, Pikey! traces the origins and growth of the movement and salutes its pioneers and celebrity champions, enabling the reader to identify the pikey next door and embrace the pikey within.

About the Author

Carrie-Anne Brackstone and Laura Bushell were raised on a strict diet of cheap fish fingers and Worzel Gummidge and are often found scrapping in the reduced aisle at Iceland.

As one whose wallet bulges with money-off coupons, however small, and credit notes galore, I was daunted at handing over £5.99 for a book. I mean, that's almost the price of a meal out for two (if you don't mind sharing a starter). Anyway, I'm pleased to say that the wondrous 'Oi, Pikey!' is worth every penny. It's hilarious. I always thought Lovejoy was tight, searching all over the place for bargain antiques. And what about skinflint Jesus "magicking" water into wine? But tight is right, as Bushell & Brackstone prove. And thanks to the book's robust hard cover, now that I've read it (and picked up some tips) I can dust it down and sell it as new to a friend. Perfect for Christmas!

A lovely little book packed with hilarious and surprising facts and tips. The advice on how to excel at living on the cheap rings so true and is even practical, and the story of the rise of the Pikey is genuinely historically fascinating. Much more than the typical humour book, with excellent illustrations and, unusually, a great philosophy behind the writing, this made me trot down to the car boot sale with a spring in my step. I'll be putting it in several stockings this Christmas - especially at this price! Bargain!

Fantastically funny 1 Jan 2006
Format:Hardcover
I'm not a Pikey, but this book affirmed my suspicion that my Parents are Pikeys - 5 star Pikeys!

The book could have been written about my childhood. I've been giggling at just about every page.

I'm sending it to my brother, who lives in Canada as soon as I'm finished.

Fantastic book - particularly if you have some Pikey blood in you.

Michael Allen
