Biography

R.E.M. was an American rock band formed in Athens, Georgia, USA, in 1980 by Michael Stipe (lead vocals), Peter Buck (guitar), Mike Mills (bass guitar and backing vocals), and Bill Berry (drums and percussion). R.E.M. was one of the first popular alternative rock bands, and gained early attention due to Buck's ringing, arpeggiated guitar style and Stipe's unclear vocals. R.E.M. released its first… Read more in Amazon's R.E.M. Store

REM's ballad to New Orleans 4 Feb 2011
By T. Fisher - Published on Amazon.com
I haven't listened to R.E.M. regularly for some time, but this single from the upcoming album "Collapse Into Now" is really good. It is a ballad dedicated to New Orleans after Katrina.

This isn't R.E.M. in their rocking mode -- instrumentally it's dominated by acoustic guitar, mandolin and an accordion that gives a French feel, helping bring out a flavor that suits the subject matter very well. Well done, and a great choice for Free Song of the Day.

That's Me In The Corner 9 Mar 2011
By David J Spuria - Published on Amazon.com
REM and politics do seem to always find their way together. This is a song that has a true melancholy flavor. And it captures REM going back to their "Losing My Religion" period. It is instantly familiar while at the same time very fresh. The production shows that this band can still create ear quality rock. This should find it's way on to adult contemporary stations. But it might not since the industry is dominated by American idol wannabes, whiny female singers, and solo flash n'the pan male singers who will be forgotten about in two years.
