I bought dozens of albums last year and this one was the best. I was already a big fan of Bearsuit from their initial introduction on the John Peel show and after constant playing of their first two albums, I was looking forward to this one.
Bearsuit give you fun, noise, shambolic but structured; it's very different. They're the sort of band who get compared to lots of other bands at once because they don't quite fit into any one category. They sound like Bearsuit, which can only be a good thing. And they are the best live band I've seen.
They're earlier stuff was excellent, with some truly outstanding moments, and I was hoping this album wouldn't see them 'grow up' too much and lose their previous charm. It does and it doesn't - the charm, noise and shambolic fun is all there in spades, but the album is much more mature (musically speaking) and structured. It's an evolution that works really well and shows the band at their pinnacle.
The fabulous shambles of 'Dinosaur Heart' (the song of the year for me); 'Ssh Get Out' and 'Hark The Feral Children' combine with the more conventional 'Bleached Faced Crow' (truly superb) and 'Steven F***ing Spielberg'. The latter must have taken them hours in the studio and really shows they are serious about their music, despite the fact that it all sounds like they are just enjoying being on stage together.
It's a great, great album. Fans of (insert name of shouty, killer pop, boy/girl, indie etc. band here) - just try it. It will leave you smiling.
