5.0 out of 5 stars Pop-punk for people who don't think they like pop-punk 19 April 2014

This lesser-known group provides us with a fabulous new album of bittersweet, intelligent songs about coming of age, memories, and drinking. I was thoroughly impressed by the songcraft on this record, especially how no song, even the ballad-like ones, stretch beyond 3.5 minutes. Maybe I'm just impatient, but nevertheless this plays like a collection of great pop-punk singles, though they draw from broader influences, with Squeeze-like melodies and shoegaze-like walls of distortion on the slower songs. Thus, dare to be surprised by Fireworks' new offering; lyrically and melodically, it is almost instantly memorable.
5.0 out of 5 stars Best album I have heard in a LONG time 2 Aug 2014

Breathtaking album. Because we all love comparisons, here goes: I would say this sounds like a hybrid between Pinkerton-era Weezer and the Gin Blossoms. The hooks and melodies are razor sharp, and the lyrics are deep, profound and melancholy. Musically, there are layered guitars, almost reminiscent of old Pumpkins material. This is a fantastic album, and one I keep coming back to time and time again.
5.0 out of 5 stars Sad Pop Punk 7 Jun 2014

I was originally too bummed out to enjoy this album. The lyrics and tone of the album are really dark, really downer. But the more I listened to it the more I appreciated how they were able to take very dark themes--i.e. the death of your father, depression, etc--and infuse it into one of the best pop punk albums in recent memory. Possibly the hardest Fireworks album to digest, but ultimately the one that's the most worth the effort.
