PS3 Officially Licenced 4Gamers Gaming Headset - COM PLAY NC2

After waiting and waiting and waiting for somebody to review this headset for what seems like months I risked it and went ahead and bought them when I saw them on a different site for much less. As in nearly £20 less. However, I dont mind telling you that had I paid the £70+ amazon are charging, or even the original RRP of £99.99, I would still be extremely happy with them.

I have to say that the only other headset of this type I have experience with is the lower spec Officially Licensed 4GAMERS PS3 headset called the CP-NC1 model (and these are so much better than those and I can see where the extra price goes - as in most of the features listed below that the CP-NC1 doesnt have) I havent ever tried any of the Turtle Beach or Tritton headsets so I cannot compare them. The other model mentioned, the CP-NC1 suffered in my opinion from being very small, too small for anyone, I think, with a normal sized adult head and adult ears. The CP-NC2 however are a MUCH better size.

The build quality and the material the headset is made of is just such a very high quality. Its that kind of smooth, matt finish, high quality plastic that seems to resemble some kind of rubber. They really are a very nice headset to look at with the very reflective chrome parts on the ear piece with the Official PlayStation logo really standing out and I am certainly very happy with the look of them.

The sound quality I believe is also a major step up from the cheaper CP-NC1 with very clear sound that sounds so crisp and clean and the bass is also very clean. Nice and deep with no rattling distortion. They seem to sound just as good if I use them as a normal set of headphones on my ipod as they do when using them on the PS3. With the included wire you get with them you can plug them into anything with a headphone jack. They even come with an adapter for the larger sized jacks AND with an aeroplane adapter if you want to use them whilst on a flight. EXCELLENT feature. The microphone also detaches for when not in use as a headset. 2 AAA batteries are included that you have to put in one of the ear pieces for the superb noise cancelling feature. It seems to make a big difference to mine as when I flick the NC switch on and do something like coughing to test it there is a very noticeable difference in the amount of noise that gets through. It says something in the included manual/booklet that the NC feature is also tied into the aeroplane adapter as when its turned on its good for keeping out the sound of the planes engines. Last but not least you also get a very nice leatherette pouch to keep them in with a nice PlayStation logo on it.

I really do believe that if you buy this headset you wont be disappointed. It really looks like 4GAMERS have worked very closely with Sony PlayStation on these and they certainly are very worthy of the Official License. Whilst in game they are superb and I can hear the game very well and also the other person who I'm online with nice and loud - in both ears - as opposed to in just one ear as with the Bluetooth Official PS3 headset I have. You can also adjust the loudness of both the in game sound and chat volume with the attached control box, also with a mute switch for the mic, that has a clip on it so you can attach it to your shirt so it doesnt get in the way.

Or they work just as well as a stand alone pair of headphones. They are pretty expensive but I believe worth every penny. Im so very glad I took the risk of getting them before seeing somebody's review so I hope this has helped anyone else in a similar situation. Just buy them, you wont regret it but maybe have a shop around first like I did.

After looking at the image of the headset after writing the review I noticed that it is NOT accurate of the product. The ear pieces are much thicker, more circular and chunkier than the image and the VERY reflective, mirror like chrome parts on the ear pieces are just a dull silver colour in the photo. It really doesnt do the headset justice and must just be a pre-release stock photo of them before they were changed slightly, (for the better) I just thought anybody interested might like to know this info too.

Out of the 4gamers headset series this really is the king of them all, not only are they extremely comfortable, they offer top-notch sound and microphone clarity.

This headset unlike others has the option to plug in the microphone as well as different types of audio cables, it comes with a 6.44mm audio & aeroplane adapter and another lead so you can connect your headphones with other devices such as a CD player.

You also have an option for more noise cancelling, you can activate this on the left hand side of the headset by switching the button, but it will require two AAA batteries (included).

Before purchasing this unit MAKE SURE you have the composite AV cable that came with your PS3 if your using a HDMI cable, if you're already using the AV cable then you wont need to worry about digging it out. If for some reason you can't find it, then you will need to buy one; AV Audio Video Cable Lead composite For PS1 PS2 PS3. I have uploaded a video to show you how to set this headset up.

Obviously the bad side to this product is that you have wires hanging out and isn't as "convenient" than a Bluetooth headset, but the pro's really do outweigh the cons by miles, not only can you submerse yourself in the game with a beautifully rich sound, but you can also talk/hear your friends or gaming partners with the up most clarity.

With a quick mute button to stop people from hearing you in split of a second and the easy adjustment of game/chat volume ratio, this gaming headset is a must for not only people who want to socialise with their friends online, but to submerse yourself into the game more.

I just wanted to add after using these headphones for over 3 months now that people with glasses may have some discomfort when playing for extended periods of time, reason for this is as it's very "snug", the pressure pushes your ears into the side of the glasses which over time may cause discomfort. This may not effect everyone, but it did for me.

Those who wear contacts or do not wear glasses, then this will not be an issue for you.

I still use these headphones and rate these highly, I just make sure I give my ears a bit of a rest every hour or so to avoid the problem.

I left a review of these headphones last year. (No longer here ??) The original issue was that the cable wasn't long enough meaning that the wire was pulling between the headset and the control unit. Resolved issue by finding a 4 contact 3.5mm jack costing 2 or 3 pounds. Worked fine thereafter.

Update 1 :

Hardly used - but BE WARNED. One of the earpieces has just snapped off. I paid £65 and now see that around 7 months later, the price is around £35
Have contacted Amazon to advise them of the problem.

UPDATE 2 : Amazon have replied to my email in around an hour and they are arranging a replacement.
