5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for my needs 8 April 2011
Verified Purchase
As my original white wireless controller had been keeping me going for just over 3 years, it was a bit worse for wear. The main problem was that the sticks would not re-centre, they would just get stuck in their last position. The rechargeable batteries I had been using were also dying so I found that a wired controller would be ideal for my needs.

This controller was a great deal, just £17.99 at the time of my purchase, which would be cheaper than me having to buy a new wireless and batteries or a Play & Charge Kit. With a 2.7m cable, it it more than enough for how far I am going to need. It also comes with a break off point that stops you from pulling the Xbox or PC off the surface it is put on. It uses a standard USB connection.

It features the new shiny Xbox Guide button, and the glossy black panel where the headset connects. However, it still features the standard D-pad, not the twisting one you get with new consoles, but as I have gotten used to how the old one works, it isn't really a problem for me.

An interesting feature that I noticed was that Microsoft have used 6 normal cross-headed screws to hold this controller together, rather than the fiddly Torx screws on my old one. This means that it should be much easier to take apart for cleaning or respraying with a new colour, but I have not tried this yet, so I can't comment on the success of doing this.

In conclusion, a great product that feels well built, solid and does its job well.

UPDATE:
As of 15/06/12 it still works fine, with all games like Gears 3, MW2, Halo Reach, Forza 3, Fallout 3, Geometry Wars 2, Trials Evolution, Assassin's Creed franchise etc. Have also been using it a bit on PC with the Arkham series of Batman games and also with Dirt 3.

I bought this for my PC not xbox and it works great.Like the other reviewer said, its the newer version with updated dpad.Plugged it in to the pc windows recognized it and installed the driver in 2 seconds. And a lot of games set up the controls for you so its plug n play mainly.Works great with Dirt2, Saintz row2, Red faction guerrilla.A must buy for PC gamers wanting a control pad as its so easy to set up and has a trusted design.
Seller was faultless it arrived next day

My PC is Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

Cheaper games better graphics more control, gotta love pc

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice one 7 May 2011
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
It's just a standard Microsoft gamepad for the Xbox 360. It's got some asian characters on the back, but it seems to be an original one (I've bought some clones, so I kinda know how to distinguish them). The box is original and the buttons sound and click as the original controllers, so it seems a legit one.

It works fine both on the 360 and PC and it has one of the most confortable shapes around so is a good item to pick up if you're a gamer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for gaming, truly plug & play... 29 Jun 2011

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I bought this because I am a games developer (that and the PC version of Bully really felt like it was designed for a controller) and it is one of three joy-pads I own. Right now, it is my favourite joy-pad. Unsurprisingly, it works under Windows. Actually, I'll admit that it was a tiny bit relieving that it works under XP and not just Vista / 7, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that it also works under Ubuntu...

If you have ever owned an Xbox 360 or even played on one, you know this is a comfortable pad to play with. It is just the right shape and size that I can play it with my man-sized hands, but my daughter can also get to grips with it in her tiny hands too. I have no doubt that Microsoft threw millions of dollars at making this the perfect shape and it paid off.

As a developer though, there are one of two little things that are a tad annoying. Firstly, it seems to have no dead zones; play a game that was not developed with it in mind and the analogue sticks are always registering a tiny pull in one direction or another. The second issue is that Microsoft (in their infinite wisdom) decided that it needed a special set of libraries to make it work fully; while DirectX can fake it, the second analogue stick is mapped to different axes than 90% of the other pads out there, the left and right triggers are actually attached to the same axis (so holding down both is the same as holding down neither) and the rumble function is inaccessible without a lot of messing about. There is a special library for making it work as intended, but how many developers really want to include Xinput for this controller and DirectX for all the rest?

3.0 out of 5 stars More than one of them do *not* work on Xbox 29 Jun 2012

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I have two of these controllers. Very quick delivery. Both controllers brand new, in excellent state and i've been trying them out in many games.
When they are connected to a PC, everything's fine. However, when you connect both of them to an Xbox (latest firmware and everything), then
both controllers get assigned the same Player number indicator (the light around the Xbox key). There is no way around it! We tried everything, reseting,
resyncing the controllers, plugging - unplugging, nothing works.

Long story short:
* buy them for PC
* avoid if planning to buy multiple for Xbox
(there is also now a 2011 version of this same contoller)
