2.0 out of 5 stars a lot of money for an advert 31 Jan 2012
By Liz
Format:Hardcover
I bought this for my daughter, in the hope that it would help her learn more about the Olympics. I thought it was incredibly unhelpful, and did not cover even the basics of Olympic history (very difficult to find mention of the relevance of the torch, the rings, why we have the Olympics...)

It does list the main sporting activites, but has no more than could be found on the 2012 website, and is, in my opinion, a total waste of money.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed 8 April 2012
By Ginnie
Format:Hardcover
Bought two of these books for my children thinking they would be a great introduction to the Olympics BUT I'm very disappointed with them. In fact I've given them away and bought the "London 2012 Olympic Games: The Official Book" instead. My problem is that there is actually very little information in the book - fine maybe for a 4 year old but for my information hungry 6 and 8 year old it's just not enough.

I really thought that this Countdown book would be better than this - very shallow in my opinion. Hoping that the "London 2012 Olympic Games: The Official Book" gives some more substantial information about the different sports and the 2012 Games - it should arrive next Tuesday so we shall see...

5.0 out of 5 stars A great book 19 Aug 2011
By robrev
Format:Hardcover
When I went to see the Olympic stadium in Stratford, there was a souvenir shop, it was full of bits and bobs like pencils and badges etc. But then I saw this book. At first, I thought it was a bit of a gimmick but I bought it anyway and it turned out to be a really good book. It has information about every Olympic and Paralympic sport, superstars to look out for, Olympic records, puzzles and games! Also, at the bottom of each page is a timeline that stretches throughout the book. Wenlock and Mandeville (the Olympic and Paralympic mascots) are there on most pages to help you through the book. Personally I thoroughly enjoyed this book and it is something I always look back to when I am bored.
P.S: it's cheaper on Amazon than where I bought it!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Brilliant Little Guide to 2012 4 Aug 2011
By Miss
Format:Hardcover
Its a book about the build up to the London 2012 Olympic games and it's both child and adult friendly. It gives information of the past Olympiads as well as a time line from beginning to now. It includes a list of all Olympic and Paralympic sports as well as little quizzes and questions as you read through. Featuring the recognised athletes that will be taking part next year with information about them, as well as some stars to look out for.

A great read!
