I assume if your reading this review, you're a fan of The Office. If your new to The Office and reading this, click back - get the first seasons in your basket - as well as this, click buy and patiently wait by your letter box. Then, when the glorious day finally arrives - get stuck into one of the greatest TV shows of the past 10 years. Not best comedies, best TV shows.
For those wondering if the should buy this season on DVD, yes. As always the extras alone warrant the £20+ (at the time) price tag. Plus, if you have all previous seasons it to hard to resist getting this on DVD to bring your collection up to date.
Other than the extras, its the final 6 episodes that make this season a landmark, and therefore must have, season.
The build up to Michael leaving bubbles about a bit early in the season, the is really labored over in the final 1/4.
Old jokes are revised (Dundies), guest stars litter Dundler Mifflin (Ricky Gervias, Catherine Tate, Jim Carey - to name a few), but its mainly Micheal's monumental departure that means you need to own this. Its one of the biggest things to happen in one of the greatest TVs shows made.
Michael aside, this season has got a lot of stick. A lot of people say the gags don't hit as hard, Pam and Jim are annoying and the background characters (mainly Creed) are pushed even more into the back ground. Some of this is true, but something different has happened this season. The makers seem to know the audience more, know they can play with in-jokes, call backs and that most importantly push the realism up a few notches in certain places. I choose 4 stars as The Office is my favourite tv that I can actually relate to. Previous seasons would have 5 stars as I thought they where stronger, I'm not a fan of the repeated special guests now

The series where Michael leaves, I don't think I'm giving anything away there. I agree with the other review, I't does takes three or so episodes before it all comes together and then it rips along just like its predecessors. There's definately more Andy Bernard in this series, a lot less Michael and a lot more Deangelo Vickers.
Some cameos as well; Ricky Gervais as David Brent, (which only serves to show how far this show has moved on from the original) And a mesmerising turn by James Spader.
Though we don't know if the series will continue, the final episodes show that the there is enough strength in the characters for it to carry on without Michael Scott - Andy Bernard could easily fill his shoes on this showing.
.....And you get Threat Level Midnight, Michael Scarn's long awaited movie debut!

Bought as a Christmas Present
I'm yet to watch this DVD as it has been bought as a Christmas present for my boyfriend. However, as we are both big fans of the American Office I am sure we will love it!

Funny
The series was good fun. It struggled a bit without Steve Carell. I would still recommend this DVD though and found Will Ferrell surprisingly good as a replacement.
