Product Description

Following the success of Darkwerks, Offerings focuses on the many realms of fantasy and horror that populate Brom's world. A leading name in the collectible worlds of computer and card games, such as Diable, Heretic, and Magic, Brom has also worked on comic cover work including Batman, and on movies such as Galaxy Quest.

About the Author

Brom started working as a commercial illustrator at the age of 20, but soon crossed over into the field of dark fantasy. His work includes jacket paintings for novels (Michael Moorcock's Eric), computer games (Doom II), comics (Chaos, Dark Horse) and cards (ICE's Lord of the Rings). He was nominated for a Chelsley Award for Best-Game Related Illustration in 2000.

5.0 out of 5 stars It is a balanced overview of Brom's rare artistic talent., 24 Oct 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Offerings (Paper Tiger) (Hardcover)
More lost souls wander the pages, stalking my nightmares and tugging at my heartstrings. Brom's 'Offerings' is another collection of stunning fantasy artwork, ranging in date from 1994-2000. The shorts bursts of prose accompanying many of the works give a clearer insight perhaps as to the inspiration behind the characters.

From the seductive to the downright fearsome, Brom puts to canvas images which live and breathe with the capability of provoking a wide range of emotions in the viewer; sometimes a need to turn the page fast, denying a base human desire to study the macabre in intimate detail(something to indulge when the house is quiet and the kids are in bed?)or maybe, dependant on one's gender, a longing to inhabit a world of fetish-clad females or smouldering-eyed elf men.

Maybe compared to Brom's bookform debut 'Darkwerks', 'Offerings' lacks the initial shockability for the already initiated, but that said, he never fails to drag the unexpected up from his shadowy world where beauty ever hides the sinister.

Those not familiar with Brom will find a veritable feast for the eye (his use of colour and contrast is truly astounding), and may find themselves unwittingly beguiled and joining his band of merry followers who close carefully the book for fear of angering its inhabitants and who peer more closley into the shadows at nightfall.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Collection - but not as good as Darkwerks, 6 Mar 2005
By HARRISON CHUA - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Offerings: the Art of Brom (Paper Tiger) (Paperback)
This is a good collection of Brom's art... but if you are thinking of buying a Brom book... buy 'Darkwerks' before you buy this book.

The art in this collection is more mature and refined in comparison with Brom's Darkwerks collection, but is lacking in quantity and the spontaniety of his card art.

He is one of the few artists who rarely uses reference material whilst painting. This approach is evident due to the fact that a lot of the figures have comic-book figure proportions -- which is admirable in this day in age where painters trace from photos.

Verdict: Buy Brom's Darkwerks first, buy this after.

5.0 out of 5 stars Darkness incarnate, 6 Nov 2001
By @ "gorgon-13" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Offerings (Paper Tiger) (Hardcover)
This is Broms second book, his artwork is more mature than that in Darkwerks and perhaps a little less immediate, but never take a Brom picture at face value, even the classically beautiful images have something unpleasant lurking in the background. Fans of Brom will be glad to know that is more of the excellent, if somewhat disturbed work of perhaps the best fantasy illustrator working today. BUY IT !!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Work from Brom, 13 Mar 2011
By A. Moore - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Offerings (Paper Tiger) (Hardcover)
Im personally familiar with Gerald Brom's work so I knew exactly what to expect and it made this purchase ten times more sweet to me. I love his work and not because I like dark and sinister looking work but because his talent is amazing. Each detail is beautiful and all his work is done from sketches and built up from there. What I would call true and amazing art unlike stuff being copied and pasted and slapped together on a computer. It takes real talent to imagine it, draw it from a pencil, and build it up from paint. His stuff is amazing and I love his work. Been familiar with it when I was younger and so happy that now I was able to purchase it and have it for my own keepsake.
