Book Description

1 April 2007 National Trail Guides

Offa's Dyke Path is the 177-mile (283-km) National Trail along the man-made dyke that gives the Path its name. This volume features the southern section of the Path. This is the complete, official guide for the long distance walker or the weekend stroller. All you need is this one book. It contains the entire route split into convenient sections; 1:25 000 Ordnance Survey maps for each section, marked with points of special interest; circular routes off the trail for shorter walks, enabling the walker to explore the local area; route information on each section, with color photographs and notes on nearby features; background information on local history, wildlife, archaeology, geology, industry, and land use; details of public transport, villages on or near the route with facilities for walkers, useful organizations, and sources of further information on accommodation; and the Countryside Access Charter on your rights and responsibilities when out in the countryside.

5.0 out of 5 stars A compatent, complete and entertaining guide 1 Nov 2000
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
I found this book and its partner book Offa's dyke north to be the ideal guide along this delightful long distance foot path. The 1:25000 scale maps are clear and easy to use, you will need no other maps. Like the other National Trial Guides, the walk is divided in to daily sections which make travel and accomodation arrangement very easy to organise in advance. The information on the history and geology realy added to the experience of walking the dyke. I was also impressed by the design of the book itself, being rugged with rounded corner and a water resisitant cover. Perfect for storing in a handy rucksack or jacket pocket. These two books are the definative guides to walking Offas dyke

5.0 out of 5 stars A useful and very clear guide 25 Jun 2010
Format:Paperback
I thought this guide was very good - it's not too big, it gives a good general description of the route, with clear 1:25,000 maps (though they only show a kilometre or so either site of the path, so you may want to bring the OS maps as well), and provides a fair bit of local and historical information. The path itself is very well signed; I'm not sure how anyone armed with this guide could manage to get lost.

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful guide 3 July 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is a good start if you're looking to walk Offa's dyke. It has good scaled maps and interesting descriptions of the routes etc.
One thing that could be done to inmprove it would be to include more information on accomodation on route, rather than just list some references.
Overall though, one of the best guides to the area I've seen.
