Product Description

Humorous thriller. Back cover: Aline Alexandre does not relish the prospect of spending the August bank holiday weekend in a secluded spot in Cornwall doing team-building exercises with her glum investment-banking colleagues. What promises to be a dull weekend soon turns into a nightmare. A mystery illness, a narrowly avoided accident, anonymous threats and a gruesome find point to a cat among the pigeons. Could the disconcerting events be connected to a tragedy that took place many years ago on Moorland Manor, the run-down country residence belonging to Aline’s line manager, where the group is staying? Before she has a chance to unravel the mystery, she finds herself trapped in a dark room. Suddenly, she has become more dependent on her colleagues than she had ever thought possible in order to reach her most important goal: to get out alive… Off-site is a humorous thriller that keeps up the suspense throughout, until the surprise denouement. It also contains an element of satire on the dysfunctional aspects of corporate life. Set entirely in a picturesque coastal village in England, with all the action taking place over a single weekend, it is intended for readers who like to get thoroughly spooked, but who prefer happy endings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Marietta's mushroom murder mayhem 26 Nov 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Off-site by Marietta Miemietz is like no other book I have ever read. It involves city bankers a long way outside their comfort zone ... a comfort zone which has been heavily squeezed in recent times. The rich folklore and dramatic weather, with thunderous waves crashing on the rocky coast is enough to spook the locals - easily a cocktail for mind games with a bunch of city types. Marietta exploits this heady mixture with a light-hearted, almost surreal thriller. There's a grisly murder and our heroine sinks her toes into the blood-soaked corpse. Will she be next on the crazed madman's list? Lots of fun. Worth a read.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poorly written 16 Sep 2012

Miss Mieiemitz should stick to her day job. This was neither humourous nor thrilling and the denouement could be seen a mile off. The book has been poorly written - there are grammatical errors and there is no natural flow to the writing. I would not recommend this.

Superbly written, this book will keep you turning the page to seek the next suspense. At 51-pages it is a swift read, but is packed with humerous musings of a research analyst which will offer you a glimpse of a dysfunctional investment banking organization, in an unlikely setting of an old run-down mansion in Cornwall. It is a thriller, but of a lighthearted sort, and will lure you to a happy ending that will leave you waiting for the author's next sequel. P.S. You don't have to be involved in the industry to enjoy this book!
