Product Description

Product Description

A lawyer in a strange land.

Madeline's always had a purpose. Lately, it's been to make partner at her high-powered law firm, something that she's chased relentlessly for years.

Fate, and some pretty powerful magic, change all of that in minutes.

She and her assistant Simon are pulled into another world, where magic and prophecy are real. The people of the Summer Lands are under threat from a blood feud, and it has been foretold that Madeline will play a part in the quest to save them - even if she's not exactly willing to get involved at all.

Their ruler, Lady Arabela, needs her help, and time is already running short. Their quest has to be done by the next full moon, or her land will be overrun and destroyed. She's not used to taking no for an answer, especially not with her subjects' lives as stake. But Madeline's not used to being so completely off-track, and she doesn't take orders from anyone - not even someone with magic and an army at their disposal.

Today, however, the life or death of a nation rests with her.

3.0 out of 5 stars Somewhat interesting, terrible editing/formatting 20 May 2013

The idea is somewhat formulaic (think Spellsinger) but still works. I'm halfway through the book, find it engaging enough to finish, but am being driven to distraction with the errors in grammar and punctuation. If the manuscript ever made it to an editor she or he should be severely punished.
4.0 out of 5 stars A nice other world story with likable characters. 7 Jun 2013

Not a lot of action and the story isn't extremely captivating. However, if you like characters that are transported from the present time to other worlds, it is a decent book. The main characters seemed to accept their initial change in location and situation rather easily, even before they understood what had happened or where they were. Several of the characters and their development seemed a little by-the-textbook, as did some of the conflicts, but the story keeps moving enough so it doesn't get too redundant or boring. The description of the second book in the series seems a little reaching and contrived, but I'll keep an eye out if it happens to go on sale.
3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting characters, but the story never went where I hoped it would go. 18 Feb 2013

I read this to pass time, and honestly, had to skim a lot just to get through it. Kind of disappointed that with the characters and setting more wasn't done to make this book really intriguing. Honestly, if you're looking for an exciting read, this book will tease you and never deliver. Don't waste your time.
