I'm the type of person that reads quite a bit but has trouble with information lodging in my brain for any amount of time. I remember some things I have read about but quite often I find that a lot of stuff has just faded away. I had this very good book bought for me recently and it is just the job for someone like me that want's to learn about a subject that I may just have a passing interest in. For example, I finally know just where the Battle Of Waterloo was fought!
There is little doubt that '
Off with Their Heads!: All the Cool Bits in British History' is aimed towards a younger market but that isn't to say that it wouldn't be of interest to adults(I can vouch for that!). The major events in the history of Britain are featured in a humerous and very entertaining way. There is a complete run down of the Kings and Queens of England and coverage of all of the major wars. There are some omissions of what I would consider major characters (Princess Diana, Charlie Chaplin, Ernest Shackleton, Captain Scott) but on the whole a very wide range of subjects are covered and it would be very difficult to include every British person that achieved world renown. Some of the drawings aren't really that funny but this is generally an excellent effort.
If you want to find out about British history and want a quick reference then I recommend this book without question.
