1.0 out of 5 stars Just wrong!, 17 Mar 2004
By A Customer
In my opinion this book is a compelete distortion of Cambodia. It may simply be out-of-date but don't plan a visit to this charming country on the basis of this book's content - you will find the reality very different.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent read, 19 Feb 2003
By Ben Zachariah (London, UK) - See all my reviews
Having read almost every book by modern Khmer writers as obviously the Khmer Rouge destroyed most of the old authors work, and spent over ten years in Kampuchea, i found this book an excellent portrayal of life on the streets. its very easy to go to Phnom Penh and not see the things outlined in the book. just veer away from the tourist areas, and all is quite visible. a very worthwhile read.

4.0 out of 5 stars pretty good in my book, 15 April 2002
By A Customer
I really don't think the book was at all inaccurate. Anyone who has visited Phnom Penh even briefly has surely experienced some relatively bizarre situations. For a light book, Amit Gilboa broke some illusions regarding Pol Pot's role in the genocide and also the nature of relationships between some prostitutes and their clients. A light and interesting read.
