Book Description

21 Mar 2008 Charles Resnick Mysteries
Little Gloria Summers' body has been found, hidden inside two plastic bin bags in a disused warehouse. Somewhere in the city, a child killer is on the loose. Then Emily Morrison vanishes and a week later there are still no clues. Years of patient police work have taught Inspector Charlie Resnick that those who jump to easy conclusions are often the last ones to solve a crime.

Charlie Resnick is inspector in Nottingham, where the 6 year old girl Gloria disappears. After a few months her body is found by a young couple making love in an abandoned warehouse. A few months later another 6 year old girl, Emily, disappears. At first sight the disappearances look very similar and there are quite a few possible suspects. It is up to Resnick and his team to sort out who was involved in what. In the end both crimes are solved, but it takes until the last page before it becomes clear to the reader what happened exactly.

Charlie Resnick is an inspector in the tradition of Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch including his love for jazz music. We also follow Resnick's colleagues, who are not all equally likeable, but that only makes the characters more realistic. There is also quite a lot of criticism on society in the tradition of Sjowall and Wahloo. All in all this book is a very enjoyable read.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent Resnick novel 12 Mar 2009
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Just finished this novel and have thoroughly enjoyed it, particularly Charlie Resnick. I love the way the author has created a brilliant character - he is so true to life and with cats too! I thought this story was excellent and a good twist at the end. I doubt if you will be sorry if you enjoy a good crime thriller. I didn't read the books in the correct order but it didn't affect me - I shall go back and read the 3 I have missed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another great read 6 Oct 2011
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I have only recently come across John Harvey - well only reading him for a few years - following a recommendation from a friend who shares my love of Rebus. It is dark but engaging with the right balance of intrigue but not just gore and horror. Resnick is an intriguing character and one I feel I get to know a bit more with each book.
