No reference was made in the description that the notes on each page at the bottom are in German (presumably for German students studying English). The paperback version is very small (under 4 inches x under 6 inches 14.7 cms x 9.6 cms). There is no room to add notes. Big Amazon fan and this is a rare occasion when I feel I have been let down.However at least I don't have to pay for the return postage costs as Amazon do, so still a great service.

This book is amazing i really enjoyed it. If you're studying this for gcse i suggest you get this book because it explain's things for you and has some literature questions inside to help you revise.

I would have to disagree with some of the previous reviewers remarks on this book. I too am a GCSE student and have read it at school. I found the story very interesting , at the beggining steinbeck uses some beautiful descriptive words to describe a valley with a river flowing through it. We are eventually given some background info on the main characters which is welcomed but perhaps maybe would of have been better right at the begining of the book. I found the GCSE questions in between the chapters very helpful for revising your knowledge on the text , but if you were just reading the book for fun then i could see how this would be annoying. The book is on the short side (but hey it's quality not quantity isnt it). So to sum it up then , it's a great book if you are doing it for exams but maybe not for the normal reader.

The Hardback Version is the right one for GCSE
Initially after reading the other reviews I assumed that some versions had the German sub text but I bought the hardback version which was perfect.

The text for the story is in English, all other text is in a different language. Absolutely no use to a student studying GCSE English Language. Read more

Would not recommend this format
Sadly the extra information on the bottom of each page about the text was in German! Not helpful at all and very misleading. I would suggest buying the book in a different format.

Great for GCSE
Needed this for my son's GCSE English exam. He actually enjoyed reading this book. Hopefully it will help in his revision.
