There's absolutely no question that the music within this CD is of the highest quality. It is a celebration of 30 years of making music, and the contents of this CD span this timeline.

With such fabulous compositions as "Missing" and "L'enfant", thrown in with established classics such as "Conquest of Paradise" and "Chariots of Fire", the listener is ensured a pleasurable experience- especially as the play-time is almost 79 minutes. I must point out, however, that most of the compositions on this CD have not only appeared on their original CD, but also on other Vangelis compilation albums. In some ways, this is a compilation of compilations.

The main selling point for me was the inclusion of two new tracks. The first, "Theme from Cavafy" is so-so, but the second (an entirely new composition called "Celtic Dawn") is brilliant. As someone who got no pleasure at all out of Vangelis's last original CD, Mythodea, I found it reassuring that the Vangelis I know and whose music I love, can still do it for me. I hope this is a sign that his new album will be a return to form.

Beautifully presented, the album is supplied with well written notes. Vangelis has remastered the disc himself, and even the established classics have been "tweaked" here and there to give a perhaps slightly softer, smoother sound.

Recommended.

An odyssey is hard work, and this album most definitely isn't. I'd never heard of Vangelis before I saw this advertised (I know, I know!), but many of the tunes were familiar. It is very easy, very relaxing listening. Bung it on the hi-fi and lay down on the sofa with a good book and a nice glass of malt. In summary, undemanding, but none the worse for that.

Great album. 22 Nov 2003
Format:Audio CD
I bought this having seen it on offer and mainly because I was a huge fan of Blade Runner. I didn't know much of Vangelis's other works except for obvioulsy Chariots of Fire.

This was a very good album, good chillout stuff. He is a musical maestro and as far as I can remember the only composer to win an Oscar with a synth score. Really the only complaints I can give is that a lot of his songs uses the same sounds. Musically they are different yes but his synth sound effects are very similar on a lot of songs. The two bonus tracks were a little eccentric but the rest is a great chillout album with some particularly memorable soundtrack songs, such as Chariots of Fire and the End titles from Blade Runner. This is a good album.

Disappointing, compared with my old cassette tape the sound seems to have been over worked and has less sharpness of melody
