Lesser known score is still a hit,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Octopussy (Audio CD)
John Barry is in many ways a victim of his own success. Octopussy is somewhat overshadowed by his great Bond scores of the 1960s, and his swansong, The Living Daylights. It's also not helped by a theme tune that slips right under the radar. This is undeserved. All Time High is a tuneful song with intelligent lyrics performed inoffensively by Rita Coolidge, but it's in the orchestral score that Barry really shines. He suggests India without resorting to cliché, using flutes and careful arrangements rather than the usual ethnic instruments. And that must be a deliberate choice, as Barry has more than once shown himself at home with different musical cultures.
It's just a shame that what is presented here is exactly the same as was available for the original LP in 1983 - there is far more music in the film. The mastering is far better, though.

Barry reminds everyone why he was THE Bond composer,
By The Collector (Milan, Italy) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Octopussy (Audio CD)
Perhaps a notch down from Moonraker, Barry still manages to produce a memorable theme, best heard as an instrumental in That's My Little Octopussy. The track 009 Gets The Knife starts with moody and tense music but switches in dramatic fashion to the Bond theme and you can picture the clown being stabbed by a frenzied asassin! Comes with a nice booklet with extensive liner notes and photos.

Great soundtrack,

A great soundtrack. John Barry, I think, is a great composer of movie soundtracks. I think all his 007 soundtracks are great. There are relaxing, as well as catchy tunes in this soundtrack. I especially love "All time high" by Rita Coolidge.
