Product Description

Nueva York, 1972. Javier Sierra

... You'll love this! I know that's a cliché but it's true. I first read this book about 15 years ago and have bought countless copies for friends and relatives.

It's the tale of Catherine a very smart and independent woman who finds herself embroiled in the search for a legendary chessboard. The story of the board itself goes back through time to the emperor Charlemagne and then jumps to the French revolution when it resurfaces.

It grips you from the very start with its strong female protagonist, even if she does have a weakness for the obligatory handsome males. The historical flashbacks are superb and intriguing, the story told with a great deal of intelligence and humour. It contains characters you really find yourself caring about and a plot twist in the final pages that you just don't see coming, then you feel you should have.

A must for lovers of mystery, puzzles, history, chess and the odd bit of romance thrown in. In fact it's high time I dug it out and read it again, again.
