I found Tom Von Deck because I was looking for internet help on how to do ujjayi breathing. I found a rather peculiar video and a very helpful website. Even better, I found this ebook which is written in a humorous and accessible way which encourages the beginner rather than alienates them. Tom has collected many different meditation techniques and brought them all together in one book which allows you to discover which methods work best for you. Meditation isn't a secret act to be practised only by the initiated, it's a valuable tool to help everybody cope with the stresses of modern living. I practise my ujjayi breathing at the traffic lights and I'm working my way through the rest of the exercises to fit in around the rest of my life. For the price of this ebook, you more than get your money's worth and I wouldn't be without it now. Thanks, Tom!

The writing style of this author is very disorganised and he thinks he has a great sense of humour - which becomes very annoying if you don't agree! The important part of this book is the final section where he finally stops rambling and presents the meditations. However, as the cost of this book is very small I rate it as OK.

I've only just begun to explore meditation and yoga techniques. As a beginner, it's sometimes difficult to know what to expect from either. However, the Oceanic Mind has allowed me to learn very effective breathing exercises and meditation practices which I now incorporate into my daily life. By simply following Tom Von Deck's excellent instructions, I have been able to improve my body posture and energy flow through deep breathing and practicing mindfulness. I can't say enough about this book and the countless benefits that anyone can receive if they approach it with an open mind. I appreciate that Mr. Deck does not preach or even teach in the usual sense. He leads the reader through the basics while also honoring the essential spirit of meditation and yoga. There's no need for a strict program to be adopted because Mr. Deck allows the reader to develop their own natural system of meditation that suits them best. This is a true gem that will help anyone who struggles with anxiety, depression, or just being a person. I have already developed a sense of inner stillness that I never did before and wish to thank Mr. Deck for sharing his gift with the rest of us. :)

This eBook is very well organized and presents great information on the various techniques in an easy to understand manner. There are great how-to tips that I had never heard before. And, of course, he covers the intermediate level meditation subjects - the yogic breath, the inner smile, the breath of fire. I found it time well spent and a great resource after finishing Easy Mantra Meditation For Beginners!

SO MANY TECHNIQUES! This is an absolute must for anyone who likes to have options, or who wants to get into meditation but cannot seem to find something that fits them. This book is great as long as you are willing to be honest with yourself and throw away anything that doesn't work with you. The author makes some great points about how specific symbols can get in the way, but so can specific techniques! For example, the tongue positioning he suggests for each meditation is pretty much impossible for me and would not be surprised if many people are unable to do it comfortably. Throw it away! This is a great resource for those willing to experiment.

I highly recommend this book! Tom Von Deck has written what I believe to be the most concise, down-to-Earth treatise on meditation available. With a no-nonsense approach to explaining many, if not all, of the meditation techniques available to Westerners, he has succeeded in providing a thorough guide - with an appropriate sense of humor - that captivates and holds our interest, without the repetitive over-kill found in so many 'self help' books. This compact style makes it very easy to use as a reference for later - a book this good needs to be re-read many times, and this one will be found alongside Thich Nhat Hanh and Pema Chodron on my shelf. And, as icing on the cake, we are treated to some excellent guidance in Integrative Tuning, which is not often seen in modern Western literature.

Whether you need an introduction, or if, like me, you've been doing something called "meditation" for many years, this book could well change your definition. As Mr. Von Deck makes clear from the start, it is for anyone with a desire for inner peace, from any spiritual tradition, who wishes for a fresh, holistic perspective on deep meditation techniques.

This has to be one of the best books out there on meditation techniques. I am into these types of things and I find that meditation helps me get pass any obstacle in my life, no matter how big it is.

If you are practicing yoga and want to learn more about meditation and how to reach a deepeer level of self-awareness, this book is a must read. I started reading yoga books first, and after I finished Private Yoga Lessons: Yoga for Beginners. Yoga Poses For Beginners That Will Make Your Dog Go "What The...", this book caught my attention. I was glad I bought it.
