Richie Egan (aka Jape) has brushed with success in Ireland, both in this incarnation and as part of Redneck Manifesto and in David Kitt's band.

A brief moment of international recognition came with the White Stripes cover of Floating a few years back but otherwise there seems to be very little awareness of, to my mind, a much unappreciated songwriter and producer.

While the previous album Ritual could perhaps have been accused of being more of collection of songs than a unified album OofF has a unifying theme and more consistent sound.

While the album continues the love affair with synthesisers and the odd flirtation with house sounds, gone are the stripped down semi acoustic numbers, in favour of a much more glossily produced - dare I say - 80s synth pop.

While some of the poetry and humour of Ritual seems to have been stripped away the resulting album is still a success, more than the sum of its eclectic parts.
