There are four reasons to read a book about sailing. Either is has technical information you want (e.g., Calder), it describes a route you'd like to sail or region you'd like to explore (the Pardeys), it recounts some harrowing tale (Kretchmer), or it contains some interesting philosophical rumminations (Raban). Occupation Circumnavigator has none of this. The language is devoid of any art and the stories are essentially anecdotes about the author's trips on his yacht Jennifer, with paying crew. While I find the idea of paying crew distasteful what I really didn't care for were his rather gossipy comments about his guests. There was nothing informative or uplifting about this book. I'd find something else.
