Product Description

Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring.... until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something…unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I'm getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don't kill him first, that is.

**SPECIAL FEATURE** E-book version of this title includes two bonus scenes from Daemon's point of view at the end!

EARLY PRAISE...

“Take some really hot, sizzling character chemistry, two stubborn love interests who know how to push each other's buttons, and add in some awesome out of this world characters and you've got the makings for one fabulously written story. If Daemon and Jace (Mortal Instrument Series) where to battle it out, it would be a close call on which character would win. Talk about a refreshing, Obsidian will give readers a whole new take on aliens. What Jennifer did with this story was absolutely awesome! You do not need to be a sci-fi fan to enjoy it. Believe me, there's plenty of sparks and snarky come backs flying back and forth between Kat and Daemon, that fans of romance will love it. I loved the whole "boy next door" thing that happens between Kat and Daemon. Who ever thought you could live next door to an extremely hot alien? Certainly not Kat, and boy did I love every moment of her getting to know Daemon. If you guys loved Jace in City of Bones, just wait till you meet Daemon.” ~Mundie Moms

“Witty, refreshing, and electrifying. With a brilliant set of characters, laughs, and sexual tension that will have you pulling your hair out, Obsidian is the perfect page turner that will have you begging for more.” ~Shortie Says

“With a unique and entrancing story, Obsidian was action packed, dramatic, captivating and exciting - I Am Number Four has some SERIOUS competition!” ~A Cupcakes and a Latte

I'll be honest a few months ago, I had never heard of Jennifer L.Armentrout but then bam--there is Half-Blood and now bam--Obsidian is here and my oh my, has Jennifer took the paranormal world by storm and I hope she's here to stay!

Katy and her mother move to a small town after Katy's father passed away. With school not starting for another few weeks, Katy makes friend with her next door neighbour Dee. The problem with Dee is her twin brother Daemon, who instantly hates Katy and is very rude to her. But Katy can't help feeling attracted to Daemon, even though in her opinion he's a jerk. When Katy gets in trouble, it's Daemon that comes to her rescue but she soon realises, Daemon and Dee aren't normal....their not human...most of all...their Alien's.

I just want to say how much I loved this book! I adored Half-Blood and I can't believe the talent Jennifer has to, to be able to create another compelling and captivating story with fantastic characters and full of action. Seriously, Jennifer is clocking up as one of my favourite authors and her Obsidian, which is her second book hasn't even been released yet. Seriously, I can not wait to see what she does next!

So Obsidian, wow! From page one you're sucked into a mysterious and dangerous world of the Luxen's and I loved every minute of it. Our main characters were some of the best I've read about in a while. Katy being my favourite was strong, determined and independent. She wouldn't let Daemon walk all over her even though he treats her like dirt and even through out the entire story, she is loyal as ever. My favourite quality of Katy was....she's a BLOGGER! Woooo! I think this was a fantastic idea; it was so great reading about her filming an In My Mailbox and creating a Waiting on Wednesday post and even reading about her getting embarrassed about her book love. It's totally true to some of us bloggers. My second favourite character is....Daemon. He is one total swoon worthy guy and you'd be stupid to miss on reading about him. He's the guy all girls love but then you can't help hate him too because of how he is, so hot and cold but I honestly think it's all a front. I loved the banter between him and Katy and the chemistry was smoking hot. So much sexual tension between these too characters, that it's sure to make you melt.

The storyline was exciting and dangerous with fantastic twists and turns. The Luxen's have very unique qualities and even the bad guys were awesome. I just want to know more about the world of the Luxens. I have to say, the romance being my favourite part of the story wasn't even what I was expecting. I was expecting a full on relationship from the get go but nope, Jennifer keeps us readers in suspense and I can not wait for the next book in the series.

You guys seriously need to read this book, it's not one to miss and honestly, one of my favourite reads on 2011!

I'm just going to come right out and say it. OMG I LOVED THIS BOOK. It totally floated my boat...and then sailed off into the sunset. This book has everything - a great premise, an exciting plot, SIZZLING chemistry between the two main characters and the promise of more to come. And guess what? The main character is a book blogger LOL. It feels weird to read about a character talking about "Waiting on Wednesday" and all the other book blogger lingo that we generally use but I like it ;) Jennifer L. Armentrout is a very clever writer indeed; she gives the reader exactly what they want and makes no apologies for it. And I love her for that.

I want to start by talking about Daemon. Let's get something straight. We're supposed to pronounce it like DEMON and there is no way on this earth that I can call a guy DEMON so he became DAMON to me. And you know what? When I first "met" him? I thought he was the biggest dick ever. He comes across as an arrogant, egocentric idiot. So what if he is hot and has killer abs, his personality leaves a lot to be desired, at least in the beginning. THEN, slowly but surely, he charmed me and lo and behold, I fell for him just as Katy did. I didn't enjoy it but I can relate to liking someone you hate (if that makes sense). It's all about the chemistry baby and boy was there tons of that! The sexual tension and lustiness between Daemon and Katy was ah-mazing and some of the best I've read. It reminded me a bit of Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles but even more so as the chemistry between the two main characters was OFF THE CHARTS.
Now, it's not a spoiler to say that we all know Daemon and his sister are aliens (hello, it's in the synopsis?!) and I have to say that I thought the idea behind using light was ingenious (you'll see when you read the book). When the Luxen are in their true form, they are basically beings of light and reminded me very much of the aliens from Cocoon which if you didn't know, is a classic eighties movie and well worth watching.

I digress. What I liked most about Katy was the fact that she is a strong, independent young woman. She's not just going to fall at the feet of her attractive neighbour just because he's hot. He's annoying and rude and she doesn't need that in her life. The relationship between Katy and Daemon seemed to develop quite naturally and I like that she didn't just give in, she stood her ground right to the end! You go girl!

I couldn't write a review and not include some words about Dee who is Daemon's twin sister. Not only does she look like a model, she's the nicest girl you could hope to meet and you can't possibly hate her if you tried. She's cheerful, friendly and such a contrast to her brother!

The plot is dangerously exciting and as always, there has to be a bad guy - only there's lots of bad guys this time. An entire race that wants to kill the last of the Luxen and steal their abilities. NOT WHILST DAEMON IS AROUND, BIATCHES. Or y'know, something equally as intimidating.

I cannot even begin to express how excited I am for book two and hell yes, I've pre-ordered. You may notice that the covers have changed and I have no idea why. I thought the covers were fine just as they were but whatever, I don't care. I HAVE TO HAVE THIS BOOK! I'm now at the point where I've read all of Jennifer's YA offerings and have decided that I no longer care what she writes about, I just know that I need it.

I was hooked right from the word go. With a quick paced intriguing story line, gorgeously exasperating aliens and a heavy dose of sarcasm that had me laughing out-loud, only to then re-read the passage again; I incredibly enjoyed Obsidian and finished it in less than a day!

The main character Kat, is a young teenager who keeps to herself but who is most certainly not afraid to fight back if provoked, and no amount of drop-dead-gorgeousness will save you from her blunt and to the point opinion!

Daemon is not that different. But when you add to the equation his unworldly good-looks and the "I don't give two jots about anything" attitude, he'll exasperate even you! Only to then win you right back the next moment with a winning smile and something beneath all the alien machoness, that you can't quite put your finger on.

When these two meet Jennifer L. Armentrout brilliantly describes the chemistry/irritation between them making it almost palpable! One of the reasons I couldn't put it down was because I honestly wanted to know if they were going to gauge each other's eyes out, agree to disagree or allow the spark to grow into something. As the story develops, so does the interaction and the intricacy of the relationship. Whilst initially they clearly get on each other's last nerve, events force realisations upon them, opening new perspectives and insights.

I found Obsidian to have a very good balance of sarcasm, action and romance with a steady extraterrestrial background theme. I admit that I guessed some of the twists and turns this story took, but some really took me by surprise!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and definitely recommend it. I would say that I'm looking forward to the sequel (Shadows) but I have already devoured it :p (a review of the sequel is to follow soon). So I will say that I am absolutely itching to read Onyx to find out how this thickening plot that Jennifer L. Armentrout has woven proceeds!
