I am a Graphic Designer personally, but after watching this documentary I have realised that this can be watched by anyone really, whether involved in design or not. Everyone on the globe comes into contact and relies on hundreds of designed objects every day. This film, the second from director, Gary Hustwit shows the creative processes behind some of the objects we appreciate the design of, and other objects that we never really think of as a "designed object" - such as a tootbrush. More interesting for me was the interviews with the designers behind these items, some of the points and ideas they raise in this, really make you think about every area of design and life itself. Featuring people such as Marc Newson, Jonathan Ive, Naoto Fukasawa, Paola Antonelli, Erwan & Ronan Bouroullec and many more, I'm sure you will enjoy the entire film. Besides, there's 60 mins of additional interviews on the disc as well, which are also very good indeed. I would say a must buy for anyone interested by the sound of this topic!

I am not a designer. I originally came from a product development background before moving into marketing and digital consulting and got a lot out of this film; however there is something about this for everyone. Unless you're outside the modern world you interact with 100s of examples of product design everyday and this film helps you contextualise these interactions.

The film covers a whirlwind history of design together with some of the industry's leading lights, the unseen thread that hangs through their techniques is an almost zen approach. The most articulate and considered of the designers featured in the film is Deiter Rams the legendary head of design at Braun for almost four decades.

Finally the film starts to touch on the future impact of design, what does it mean in a digital world and a world of finite resources?

Even though I didn't recognize all the personalities interviewed in the DVD their work and words stood on their own. From taking a behind the scenes look at the inspiration and process at Ideo to conversations about what design is, I enjoyed watching this DVD over and over again.
