I had been looking for an internet radio for some time and had read the reviews of all the products on Amazon - the competitors all seemed to have some potential issues (with reliability for example) and on trying a Roberts unit I found it to be surprisingly lightweight although easy enough to use.
In the end I thought I'd give the OXX radio a try and am really pleased I did, the good looks of the unit and the reviews were what won me over - I would recommend looking at the reviews on Youtube to see the unit in action. The unit arrived extremely well packed and is really well made - it isn't a lightweight - the heavy cabinet doubtless helps deliver the excellent sound output - in DAB mode it is the equal of my old Pure Tempus (which I really like) and in internet mode it is perhaps even better though to be fair I'm not offended by the sound quality offered by DAB.
One thing that I was especially keen to have are the ability to access all the BBC podcasts (notably for me the full Radio 4 archive), and these are easily accessible by turning the knob and pressing to flick through the menus, the display has four lines and a fair number of characters so it is easy to find what you want. A really useful feature is that you can create a favourites folder in the menu really easily by using the frontier silicon website - thus I can have my set of stations ready to select.
I am also using the unit as an alarm clock and for this purpose it functions very well - there are two alarms which can be configured flexibly (weekdays, weekends etc), and the display brightness is adjustable so that it doesn't light up the bedroom in its own right when it is in sleep mode (why doesn't every manufacturer consider this?). The unit has a whole raft of other features but after a few weeks I haven't been drawn to explore them as yet - the ability to hook up to an hi-fi through a 3.5mm jack, or to hook up a mp3 player through auxilliary input (which I did try and does work fine) for example, like most people I bought an internet radio for the ability to select from the tens of thousands of radio stations.
Basically, the unit sounds good, is easy to use, has lots of useful features should you wish to explore them, is solidly built and looks great.
One last thing, as you will note from the other reviews, the company who have brought the OXX brand to the UK (the brand is Danish I believe) provided me with fantastic customer service - I really can't recommend them enough, and the very fact that I, like pretty much everyone else here, mentions it is most unusual. Ever been called up to say that the unit will ship a day later than expected (and then be refunded for the inconvenience)? I hadn't before but have now - to be honest I wasn't expecting to receive it sooner in any case. A truely personal service.
