I have given up on expensive mandolines and food processor blades that claim to julienne but instead turn everything to shreds, which is fine if you are making coleslaw! When I want neat, long thin strips with that nice square shape, I use this! It works great with carrot, long radish, deseeded cucumber etc. I usually slice one side of the vegetable so it lies flat against a cutting board, then hold the end down with a fork while I run the peeler from top to bottom. There are always bits left at the end which cannot be safely julienned but no more than any food processor or slicer. Anyway, I just munch on them while I work :o)
The size and shape are very comfortable to hold but my safety guard fell off after the first use so I keep it upright in a utensil holder on my kitchen counter. The blades are very sharp, handle with care when washing!
I never put mine in the dishwasher so cannot comment on whether this might affect the sharpness of the blades.
This gadget is great value for money and I highly recommend it.
