I buy OXO products because their quality is usually superb but this item is just cluttering my cupboard until my next visit to a Charity shop. I do not find it efficient in any way. It's intended use was to chop onions but it doesn't do it very well and I have seen a friend's cheaper version, £5.00, from a market stall, do a much better job.

I too buy Oxo products because of the quality and their ease-of-use. I've never had a chopper before so can't compare it with others, but I find no need to get another. This works perfectly with onions, garlic and chilli peppers (that's pretty much all I use it for).
If you overload it, it can be quite hard to bring the chopper back up. But a firm twist upwards will bring it up. A few forceful thrusts down and you get the large chunks of your vegetables into smaller pieces, it then eases up and you can chop quite easily and quickly.
Chopping the same amount of garlic or onions would take much longer, be much messier (not to mention the smell on your hands), and I've never managed to cut into pieces as small as you get here. I do batches of garlic using this and then leave the chopped pieces in a plastic jar for use when needed.
When finished, you pull the black rubber bottom away to access your chopped veg. A quick rinse under running water is all you need to get any remnants out of the top (cutting) half of the chopper.
I highly recommend this chopper, as do my cooking friends and neighbours who have used it here!

I bought this hoping to use it to chop herbs and small vegetables easily. Unfortunately it doesn't cut as evenly and finely as I'd hoped, so whilst it's useful I still find myself preferring to cut by hand a lot. Also the need to dismantle it for cleaning means it doesn't save as much time as you think.
So I still use it occasionally when I've a lot of fine cutting, but it's definitely not essential for those happy cutting by hand.
