The gap for the chain to fit is 45mm x 60mm which would fit a large chain hope this helps very good product.

I can, I drilled my first set of holes using a 16mm drill which wasn't large enough and I had to buy a 17mm drill - that worked fine. Now installed, ball bearing hammered into bolts and solid as a rock.

I used 10mm. Hope that helps

A good 3 inches I would say. Only thing is if you fit it to the wall rather than the floor, you cannot put the ball bearings in the allen key holes that you use to screw the bolts in with. I used a 10mm masonary drill bit and had to wiggle it about to get the depth and clearance to get the bolt on the wall. A tip drill into the mortar between the bricks if you can to position it, as it is easier. Hope this is of help.
