A lot of conflicting info on size of drill bit required, I've seen 10, 12, 16 and 17 mentioned! Can anyone definitively answer? 27 Aug 2014
I can, I drilled my first set of holes using a 16mm drill which wasn't large enough and I had to buy a 17mm drill - that worked fine. Now installed, ball bearing hammered into bolts and solid as a rock.
A good 3 inches I would say. Only thing is if you fit it to the wall rather than the floor, you cannot put the ball bearings in the allen key holes that you use to screw the bolts in with. I used a 10mm masonary drill bit and had to wiggle it about to get the depth and clearance to get the bolt on the wall. A tip drill into the mortar between the bricks if you can to position it, as it is easier. Hope this is of help.
