OPINEL has long been known in France as a traditional knife-maker and since the end of the nineteenth century (locally made in the eastern region of France). These days, its long-standing reputation has gone through the French borders to meet the demand of the ever growing clients of excellence in cookery. Thus, the fantastic INTEMPOTA COLLECTION of kitchen knives (or even the ordinary one, just called "Opinel for the kitchen" with a wooden handle) is certainly what we can call BEST PRICE for value with sharp KNIVES made in FRANCE (and not in China as most big companies do !) and really useful every day in the kitchen. The design is quite pleasant to see and it is quite convenient to grasp the handle (made of polymer to be water-proof and resistant to high temperatures for the Intempora collection or made of a wooden hand for the less prestigious collection BUT having the same blades !)...
So, whether you can spend much money or not, you are able to get a genuine collection of high standard kitchen sharp knives, made in France, and specifically designed to please the eyes and be efficient in the long run. By the way, I have the Intempora collection in my kitchen and I am French !

Santoku bladed knifes are becoming popular among western chefs mainly due to the number of Japanese chefs coming to France to train bringing their Santoku knifes with them western chef see's new knife asks to have a go decides he needs one Opinel has spotted gap in the market and made it.

The blades are thin and sharp good for chopping veg for stir frys and they are not too heavy. The blade has a shortened bolster at the heel of the blade making it easy to sharpen on a water stone. Being made by Opinel the blade is chuffing sharp straight out of the box. Nicely balanced beech wood handle don't put it in the dishwasher, look after it and it will last as long as you do.
