Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

ONSPEED is the solution for millions of Internet users who are frustrated by having a slow Internet connection and is a real alternative to Broadband. ONSPEED is a software download which utilises a unique 9 patent approved compression technology that increases your existing Internet connection speed by up to 5 times.

As you cannot physically change the speed of your Internet connection, ONSPEED uses a technology called Content Sensitive Compression ('CSC') to individually compress each element of a web page or email content using various compression algorithms based on a nine Patent approved proprietary technology. The end result is that your web pages and emails (PC only) load and download as quickly as if you were on a Broadband connection. When your web browser requests a Web Page, the ONSPEED software redirects that request to the ONSPEED Compression Servers. They take the respective Web Page content, compresses it and sends it back down to the ONSPEED software which decompresses it and sends it to the Browser requesting the information. At the moment we have dedicated algorithms for:

  • Photo-realistic images (e.g., JPEG, PNG, GIF, and BMP)
  • Line Art and Drawings (e.g., GIF, BMP)
  • Animated objects (GIF)
  • HTML objects
  • Text, etc
  • Office Documents (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Macromedia Flash

Any data elements that we do not have a dedicated algorithm for gets compressed using a generic compression algorithm. This ensures that we can still get a 20-30% speed increase on these elements.

We are constantly working on new algorithms to improve and enhance our service. By Mid 2005 we will have MP3 files, flash, and Mpeg4 for video available, achieving a 300% - 500% speed increase. You will automatically get notified when this occurs.

You can be up and running on ONSPEED within 5 minutes. There is no hardware to configure, no engineer needed to visit. All you need to do is purchase the ONSPEED software from this website, download and install it enter your username and password and away you go.

Once installed, you will not even notice it is there, it runs in the background speeding up your Internet connection automatically. It is also really easy to turn on and off should you so wish. This can be done from the taskbar or in the browser menu-bar. While information is being downloaded from or uploaded to the Internet you will notice the ONSPEED icon rotating in the system tray (located in the lower right-hand corner of the desk top), it indicates that ONSPEED is working and compressing the data.

NSPEED speeds up your web browsing and sending/receiving of emails*.

ONSPEED will not accelerate browsing over HTTPS (secure websites) or accelerate file downloads or uploads such as MP3, exes or streaming media content (over FTP or file sharing programs). In future, ONSPEED are looking to add these features.

ONSPEED does not increase the size of your internet connection. It compresses the data received hence speeding up your web browsing experience. ONSPEED does not replace your existing Internet Service Provider (ISP) and is to be used in conjunction with your existing Internet Service Provider (ISP).

ONSPEED offers the following value-added service in addition to speeding up your web and e-mail usage: Integrated Diagnostic Support Tool, Pop-Up Blocker and Ad blocker.

    * For MAC users, ONSPEED will only accelerate your web browsing. MAC email acceleration is available use of a web mail service. If you do not have a web mail service, we recommend  Web2Mail, which can integrate with your POP3 email accounts.

I don't spend enough time on the internet to warrant Broadband, so have Onspeed. It was easy to install although I had to adjust my Firewall configuration to allow it to work. It certainly speeds up surfing although it reduces picture quality (which can be adjusted). However it seems to slow down my e-mail system when sending and receiving and this is the operation I do most. Onspeed appears to connect to another server while picking up my e-mails, slowing the whole process down. There have also been numerous occasions when this server connection has been hanging and I could not retrieve my e-mails on Virgin.Net. I will not be renewing my subscription when it comes up for renewal.

My advice here would be to give this Onspeed software a very wide berth indeed. I live rather a long way from my telephone exchange. We had to wait long enough to get Broadband in the first place which is why I used this software to help make everything faster. Some chance. It did absolutely nothing to enhance the speed of my Internet in any way what so ever. So much so that there were times when I even thought the whole thing was faster without the help of Onspeed. They say it also works and helps with a slow broadband connection. Once again I tried this with a Broadband connection, and guess what? not true again in my experience. Steer clear and don't be enticed and ultimately ripped off by all the hype, IT'S RUBBISH!.

    ONSPEED. ??? 4 Aug 2007
I have used Onspeed fron soon after its creation. Over the years, performance has been variable. Downloads/streams not accelerated. This I accept. Depending upon selection, images, and similar, are variously degraded (and difficult to recover at higher resolution later).

Recently, it has been noted that links are continually being dropped and reinstated (Windows Defender is for ever sending popups). This slows any Internet work. Also, and again recently (they have just screwed another years subs out of my wallet!), the question of downloads.

My downloads are radio-streams; nothing demanding (dial-up, 36k average bps). Great problems. On its own, my ISP variable on bandwidth. It starts very well (32-45kbs), then declines with time, dropping packets. At one time, Onspeed just sat there. Now it appears to be active and causing, at times, severe data download problems (lost data). Onspeed now remains deactivated on any download. Problems solved. (Onspeed are being contacted about this).

Regarding ordinary web-page downloads, it now appears to be slowing things down. Connection with a site takes much longer (sometimes failing - 'PAGE NOT FOUND'). When things do appear on screen, this is quick (or is that my CPU?).

Overall, I sense a deteriorating Onspeed. They tell little (that matters). How many modems have they? Is demand out-strpping resources?

Increasingly, I note a 'time of day' problem. When the web is busy, Onspeed is a negative asset. At 4am (UK), America is winding down, China is waking up, and Europe is still half asleep. Quiet. Onspeed shows benefit IF it is working!

I suspect that they are becoming a self-victim of success(?).

Not currently satisfied. Not currently value for money.
