Finally decided to dive into the SSD space as was having a few stability problems that I traced to hard drive heat and fancied the speed gains offered here.
Given that I have an external media server with 4TB, space was not the priority for me. A good thing given the price hikes as you move much above this 120GB, and an absolute limit right now. 120GB enables me to get my OS and all applications installed with plenty left for more in the future. All my data sits externally.
After a degree of research (as at April 2010) this one seemed like the best choice given the speed and stability benefits of the Vertex chip. From what I read this seems the real differentiator when it comes to SSD. Beyond that you could largely be paying for the brand stamped on - this being OCZ means not too much premium :)
The result?
I have a decent setup but not cutting edge (Core2 Quad 3.5GHz, 8GB RAM) and the before and after with this drive is night and day. My Windows 7 Pro 64 now shuts down within 2 seconds and boots in little over 5. Applications from MS Office to iTunes load in a blink and surfing on Chrome is lightening.
It used to be that extra RAM was comfortably the best 'bang for bucks' upgrade going - if your needs support external storage for heavy data - SSD is the new place to spend and this OCZ offering is a worthy contender for your cash.
P.S. Don't forget the bracket you will probably need for 3.5" bay:
