Student Unit Guides are perfect for revision. Each guide is written by an examiner and explains the unit requirements, summarises the relevant unit content and includes a series of specimen questions and answers.

There are three sections to each guide:

Introduction - includes advice on how to use the guide, an explanation of the skills being tested by the assessment objectives, an outline of the unit or module and, depending on the unit, suggestions for how to revise effectively and prepare for the examination questions.

Content Guidance - provides an examiner's overview of the module's key terms and concepts and identifies opportunities to exhibit the skills required by the unit. It is designed to help students to structure their revision and make them aware of the concepts they need to understand the exam and how they might analyse and evaluate topics.

Question and Answers - sample questions and with graded answers which have been carefully written to reflect the style of the unit. All responses are accompanied by commentaries which highlight their respective strengths and weaknesses, giving students an insight into the mind of the examiner.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but mistake-ridden 5 Jun 2011
By heje
Format:Paperback
The book is split in two halves: The first covers the course content in a concise and alternative format to the normal OCR textbook which is done very well.
The second half has questions on the course content (which is why I bought the book because of the lack of past papers): This is ok but could be done a lot better. The format is a question and then two candidates give their answers which are evaluated and common mistakes recognised. However, there are a good few mistakes in the answers and sometimes it says both candidates were wrong and fails to give you the correct answer.
On the whole: worth the price but don't rely on it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not enough on its own 10 July 2013
By Sasha
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This is a fairly useful book for a quick overview of the main topics and a breakdown of a few exam answers. However, used alone it is nowhere near extensive enough - I used it alongside the OCR textbook and the 'My Revision Notes' book. It was fairly handy for a quick overview a few minutes before my exam nonetheless.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent resource 12 Mar 2011

Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
As an A-level Chemistry Teacher I have been very happy to recommend this book to my year 13 pupils who were finding this topic difficult. There are excellent notes, plenty of examples thoroughly explained (which in my opinion is the most important thing!) and the exam questions are really good, and the answers really well explained and pupil friendly. A good buy.
