Let me make this clear - I liked the contents.
But having said that, I was extremely disappointed at what seems
like a "rush" editing job.
There are just too many typo's and in some cases, contradicting
technical information in the book. Especially in the Q&A sections after any chapter where it seems that the answers say something contrary to what was explained in the chapter.
Also, its a frustrating exercise to constantly look up Oracle's
documentation just to confirm whether the data dictionary view names/ column names/ package names (and concepts) in the book are correct!! Not something you would want to spend time on
while studying for a technical exam.
But having said that, I was extremely disappointed at what seems

I found this book very easy to read and covers all the main points needed for the Oracle 10G OCP exam (1Z0-040). However, The book is absolutely riddled with errors and McGraw-Hill do not list this book on there webpage of errata for books they publish. In conclusion, do not use this book as your only learning source for this exam or you'll fail badly!!

I've got a couple of gripes about this book,as with all technical publications it could stand more proofreading as I spotted several errors that could cause you to get a question wrong. The sample questions at the end of chapters were not properly reviewed, where incorrect answers were given or the question numbers did not add up.
Why a 4 star review? Apart from all these short comings the book is a good reference guide to certification, guiding you through the requirements for the 10g upgrade exam. It explains some concepts, especially the new SQL features more clearly than the 10g Instructor Led Training. The book also has little hints and tips about using new features in the 'real world'.

The first error in this book comes on Page 5 (with the default URL for the OEM Database Control) and it continues thus relentlessly on, page after page. Read more

Good, but pay close attention for the errors.....
I've used all the Oracle Press books for my OCP exams so far, and whilst they have all had a number of errors, they have also always got me through the exams. Read more
